Replacement 12" recommendations...? WGS?

Thinking about replacing the Vintage 30's in my Orange closed-back 212...was looking at Eminence (Legends are in all my other cabs, seem to treat me well but I know they make a zillion models) but MAN the WGS seem really reasonably priced and people seem to dig 'em...will be used with my Ampegs V4 (mostly) and V2.
WGS recommended a Veteran 30 paired with a British Lead for doom, what would you say?

not familar with wgs... that might have to be something I look more into. I only know more about eminence and celestian and a few of the old vintage speakers.

The Vintage 30s weren't awful...but they didn't drop my jaw either, and the impedance just doesn't work for my rig.
Eminence Legends have been awesome, so I'm sort of torn--do you try something different, or stick with what you're used to and know works? Granted, there'll be some tonal difference between the Ampeg cabs I've used those Emi's in and the Orange these are going in.

I feel if it's my only rigs I'd go with what works so I'd be immediately happy.

Since I build shit I have room to experiment around more. But if say i was just pulling out shit from one of my 2 cabs I'd go with exactly what I knew worked for the sound I wanted cause I rather not have to try something new.... not like it and then have to offload those to buy what I knew would've worked in the first place.

I've been happy with the WGS Repears that I've had in two of my cabs- 50w version and 30w version

Absolutely trying to avoid this, if only b/c I know it'll take time to break them in, find I don't like one or both, and then take a massive hit on resale.

Skully, did you use those paired with something else, or each other?

They're both just in 1x12's, but I rigged up both of them together once and it was pretty cool sounding

Also, not sure if you're one to use Musician's Friend, but they offer free shipping on their orders and usually have WGS in stock

I'd recommend a combination of eminence speakers.
The veteran 30 is supposed to be a v30, so you're not going to get a whole world of difference.
Additionally, those warehouse speakers are less sensitive than most eminence speakers (98 db vs 101db).
The warehouse speakers do seem to be quite good especially for their cost, but since you only have two speakers to replace, it may be worth the extra 50 bucks for the volume and difference in tone.

I strongly recommend a swamp thang/ texas heat or big ben combo. I have the st/bb combo in a 4x12 now and it's wonderful and incredibly loud; great low end. There are plenty of other suggestions for combos that just work "right" on other forums that are worth looking into, as well.
The only drawback of the eminence's from the patriot or redcoat series is that they are strongly voiced, so what they sound like is indeed what they sound like as opposed to a more transparent speaker like an EV which is going to allow your amp to dictate more of your sound.

Weber is also an affordable, highly recommended brand.

Because you only have to replace 2 speakers instead of 4 or 6, it's worth splurging a little. Odds are these speakers will stay in your cab for quite some time, so why settle for something less?

*edit*
Also, most orange cabs are wired to 16 ohms, and v4s are 4ohms if I'm not mistaken. If both of these are true for you, then you can rewire the orange to 4ohms-assuming that you like the v30 sound but want a matched impedance. May be worth trying before investing a few hundo..

I wanna try some 55hz Reapers. My biggest thing with my rig is that either the high and high mids are either harsh and spiky or on the muddy side. I haven't found the middle ground yet.

I'm curious of the 55hz Reapers as well. The Reapers that I have are definitely a present sound, in that they do have those mids that make them stand out in a mix. It's been helpful live

Thats how my Weber 65s are. Its got that mid cut like a Vintage 30 without being as harsh. My problem (and I'm sure it isn't a speaker issue, just user error) is that if I set my cleans to the way I like them then the dirt tones are too harsh. If I set the dirt tone the way I like it, then the cleans are kinda muddy and get lost in the mix.

I feel you man! I'd be curious to see how they compare to the stock and 50w versions. The 50w version has a little more bass than the 30w version, but I'd like to see if the 55hz Reaper would sound even more rounded

I swear by WGS ET65's... love those damn speakers. The only Emi's I got along with were the delta series 12's and 15's

Swamp Thang is definitely on my radar, and found a dude recently selling a used pair...unfortunately he's not willing to break them up.

And you're right about the impedance (altho technically the ampegs will run with 8, 4, or 2 ohms)...but I'm trying to set the cab up for 8 ohms so I can use it paired with one of my other 8 ohm cabs (=4 ohms total.)

Have used and really dug the Delta 12s as well, the stamped-frame versions--figured they'd be a bit dark for the closed-back Orange, no?
