Need to get a clue about filter pedals.

What pedals would be good for giving my electronic music more "bite"? I believe it's 'resonance' from filters that I'm looking for (?)

Large and expensive units (Snazzy FX) are probably out of the question. I like small but versatile units if possible. I'm totally clueless on this topic, so don't think any suggestions are too obvious (Bassballs? Autowah?)

Not using rack units or modular...

Give us some examples of the kind of "bite" you're looking for.

Check out effectsdatabase.com for what's available and demos.

I like the mu-tron III, just picked up a Japanese clone that sounds fantastic for all sorts of filtering from subtle to lazers.

I've been on the lookout for the same thing. Iron Ether Xerograph, WMD FatMan, and Copilot Gyroscope have caught my attention. Do you want an envelope follower, a constant LFO sweep, expression control, or just resonance and cutoff knobs?

Also, there was this SS/BS-Dirge thing being discussed, but it looks to have gone into hibernation.

There is a wahoo in BST right now.

yeah, the Wahoo is probably as powerful as you can get without moving into rack or module territory. Not exactly small, but most versatile.

Also, it's not cheap and it does other things as well, but the EHX Micro Synth has a nice resonant filter and I often will turn off all of the octave voices and just use the filter.

I was gonna say Electro Harmonix Q Tron or something in the Q family. But Microsynth is an awesome choice. Q Tron is cheaper though so would be a good sounding filter with a wide sweep

You know what else? I love running drum machines through the Behringer BSY600. You could get away just with that and a cheap Behringer Filter machine. Then you learn what sounds you like and don't like and buy a bigger, better, bigger pedal that does that thing better. Behringers are so fucking cheap and they sound pretty good. You should just do that first.

just my 0.02 - i'd avoid Bassballs at all costs. Never heard a more annoying pedal :idk:

I like the Source Audio Manta. It's a pretty diverse little box and can do tons of different resonance filter sounds. It's also only about 130-140 used.

Yeah this is what I was thinking of recommending too, tonnes of tweakability on those sa pedals
Freaker wah is fun too but might not be what you're looking for

I use a micro Q Tron and it's good for the bucks.
