Sorry for the low-quality photo. It was taken in the bar I went to after I picked it up. $250 and everything is fully functional, including the verb and trem. Only issue is that it's missing the channel 1 treble knob, and half of the pot shaft is missing. The pot's still functional, though, and if I really cared, I could replace it, but I'm not too concerned.

Anyway, I've never owned one of these before. Any wisdom that you more experienced guys wish to bestow on me? I'm planning on building a sexy-looking 2x12 cab for it. Any particular speaker suggestions? I'll be plugging a G&L ASAT into this, with a board of various fuzzes and delays in between.

My wisdom is don't use it as your beer table.

Great score

Ha! I'm not planning to make a habit of it. I was taking a quick photo of it to text to a friend, so I put my beer there just long enough to take the picture :thumb: .

Seconded on the no beer table thing. These are made of...well, chipboard-level of cabinet.

They were shoddy in construction in the 80s when nobody wanted 'em!

I'd assume it could use a serious going-over by a tech (who could replace the pot while it's there easily as well).

The caps and whatnot were probably due for service a generation ago or more.

Also check what tubes are in it, if they're originals they're probably worth in today's market what you paid for the amp if they have a good amount of life in them.

but for real I don't have any experience with them but I've been told they're very Tweed-like. Might be helpful to search for what speakers sound great projecting tweed Fender amp circuits

Velvet Underground approved. That would be good enough for me.

Dude yes! I can't believe I've never realized this before. VU are one of my all-time faves, and I know I've seen this pic before; I can't believe I never noticed the 1484. It's pretty incredible how many great players have used these things.

Favourite of mine too. The amount of artists and bands they influenced is unbelievable. More so than people influenced by the Beatles. I think they are responsible for the alternative and the whole indie music culture.

i've got an amp from this same series... i think it's the 1483? it sounds pretty rad and it's fun to mix up the inputs, totally rips with some fuzz. on the downside it breaks down all the time and it's never left my house (it's dead ATM). i've got a few of the silvertone amps from the '50s that are holding up better that have never been serviced and see twice as much action.

That's because Silvertone amps from the '60s weren't as well made as Silvertone amps from the '50s.

Whenever I see that Velvets photo, I think "It's whatever cheap crap the management company bought him so he wouldn't pawn it."

nah, it's the gear they had right before Andy got them a Vox endorsement, which they had from 66-68.
