The sound of dental hygiene

Now, this is probably old news, especially for you drone / noise folks, but manalive am I psyched that I stumbled across this one. Last week, my wife decided we needed new toothbrushes, so she bought us some of those Oral Bs that vibrate. Needless to say, it took me about 30 seconds to want to see how my toothbrush would sound vibrating my bass. I didn't have time to try it until today, but DAMN was that fun. I'm gonna try to incorporate this into one of my band's songs... but here's the whole two minutes for your amusement. There are about six tracks of bass (all droning on low E) on here - they go:
clean (stereo center)
Wolf Computer + Cherry Pop (approx. 30 degrees left)
WC, CP + Flanger Hoax (approx 30 deg. right)
B:assmaster (60 deg. left)
US, CP + EHX Bass Synth (60 deg. right)
EHX POG + Holy Stain (set on hall reverb) (hard left)
POG + EHX BS + HS (hard right)
The trick, I found, was to hold the head of the toothbrush and let the handle vibrate the string. Depending on how tightly I held the bristles and how the handle was angled (the embossed logo on the handle added another variable) greatly affected the vibrations.

Dude!Oral B drone
I do that same thing on guitar,BUT with that nose hair clippers (or whatever you'd call it) that you get 'free' with the regular mass produced hair cutting stuff package! There's a band from Holland, can't remember their name, and their guitarist uses a effin' dildo...I can't take that seriously, though,it's too funny to watch

But other similar non-musical devices are something I would recommend
P.S.
The track is fuckin' great ! I mean it !!!
It reminds me of my fave German band of all times, Faust...

Wow! Thanks! That is high praise indeed - Faust are the real deal! I've only heard bits of their stuff, but it is intense!
This was definitely fun to record, and my first time messing with motorized doohickeys. I know that there are a few people who have used dildos with their guitars - I think Adrian Belew has done that. And I'm pretty sure that Eddie Van Halen used a power drill on a track or two. I was surprised by how well the toothbrush worked right off the bat. I like the idea of using hair clippers, too! There's a women's razor being marketed in the U.S. right now that has clippers built in - I bet those would be a pretty cheap way to get the sound.

Ever run an electric drill near your pickups?
Something with magnetics or something makes the pickups go all crazy!

Groovy, man! Oddly enough, Crank Heart by Xiu Xiu came on right at the end of yer dronin goodness and I thought that it was still your song for a hot second. I was two seconds from having an eargasm.

I love it. Great solution for an alternative to using a vibrator or a drill like Van Halen--who wants to walk around with either of those. And more action than an e-bow.
