I'm Doing an Uglyface Next -give your input

Hey all, I have plans to make an Uglyface with LFO. It all started with GAS for a Loudbutton WTF, but somebody pointed out that the Uglyface+LFO is very similar. I checked Youtube and it's true, they're close.

Here's the thing: I want to be able to use expression control for the LFO but am a little too newbish to know how to implement this. In fact, my idea was to hook up a Copilot Broadcast to it for its waveforms and tap tempo:

http://www.copilotfx.com/broadcast.html

I've done Fuzz Factory and I like my Ab-Synth, but I just want more chaos, you know? Something with a life of its own...

What do you think? I am sure it's do-able, but how exactly?

I'm pretty sure there's a mod for this on Diystompboxes.com, if not, then those guys would probably be able to tell you how to do it.

Woah, does the Ugly Face really also do these subsonic bass oscillations and envelope filter type sounds then?
If you're interested in this type of stuff in combination with LFO and/or expression control then it might also be cool to look into the Rainger FX Dr Freakenstein or Dwarf...

Here. Buy this and mod it. It's a simple build.

I did a cap selector mod, which really beefed up the bottom end.

Expression control of the LFO is pretty simple; use a shorting jack, so when you plug in your pedal, it disconnects the control on the Uglyface. Just make sure that your expression pedal uses the same pot as the Ugly (C100K, reverse log.).

No LFO on that board.

As far as I can see, no where. Vero is your friend. Did mine on vero, using this layout;

Yea but you're smarter than me. LOL. I've never built anything using vero.

i have one i did a while back , its an excellent and versatile circuit . i would recommend the capacitor mod , i have a switch , with 3 cap settings , and i only use the lower two . stock it was too trebly for my taste .

also the vactrol is not that critical for this . you see those can end up costing you ten or so to order , you can just "roll your own" very sucessfully . i would suggest you try a few different led's vs cds cells , but in this circuit , well its pretty forgiving , if i recall corectly .

i would twist your arm to do some reading over at diy sb , see what others used . i THINK a lot of folks were partial to the tiny CDS cell that comes in the radio shack photocell assortment package ,if you can still buy those locally there .

you COULD order vactrols from electronics golmine , that was by far the best value i had run across , at like 50 cents or a buck a piece .... they had a sale i think , lol . all the ones i got , were good , others claimed duds but ... who knows . i will just say the one time i odered a proper vactrol , i think for a gristlizer , it cost me like 13 dollars so ... i am cheap .

but then again i am sure there are all sorts of experts and pros who would be much better suited in assisting you ... i am much more of an old goof so . like i said , i almost always roll my own , it has worked very well for me , and i felt that purchase , well , it wasnt really worth it .... looking back

good luck man .

p.s. hey dino !

i have started using the maestro sh1 instead of the uglyface for a few songs ... i still have to get that sh1 dialed in with some "better jfetts" ... very cool circuits , both of these .
