In seach of a new amp... Single channel, headroom, etc.

Hi guys, I'm asking you 'cause I'm quite tired to sell and buy and sell again heads that doesn't sound much better or different from what I prevously owned, and I know you have tried plenty of different amps, that are sometimes also hard to find here in Italy.

In fact, I'm looking for a 100w single channel head, with pleanty of headroom, clarity on chords, transparent with overdrives and fuzz pedals. I use an EGC baritone, drop A# tuning, and a Sunn (Fender reissue) 4x12 cab. I mainly play (post?) metal and hc (to make an exemple: http://sunpocrisy.bandcamp.com/track/apophenia).

I previously tried a Sound City 120 ( some trouble with the active eq), Fender Bassman 100 (can't find the sweet spot for highs and mids, od's were always too bassy), Marshall JCM 800 Superbass (great amp, but mainly a one-trick-pony). I currently use an old Laney Klipp 100; it's great, really great, but it adds a lot of gain when used with a dist pedal, and the high frequencies aren't enough consistent, except when you switch on the treble booster.

Should I have to go for a 6L6 or a 6550 amp? :idk: Many many thanks!

Something with KT88s or similar high powered tubes should give you the headroom it sounds like you need. Be prepared to spend the money tho

Selling some stuff, I can go for 1500 bucks.

KT88 is an alternative, but I don't know many heads with those tubes. Old Model T, but they're unbelievably pricey here. VHT Pittbull Ultralead, but I don't really need a dirty channel.

Just say fuck it and buy an SVT or some other 300 watt bass amp and never worry again about head room

The Ampeg V4b would get my vote based on that budget, the headroom, and the interaction with pedals. Even in Europe I imagine you can find those for a better price than a Hiwatt or Orange (of course I don't know much of anything for sure).

Many thanks to these suggestions. I haven't heard about A-wai before, but I'm going to make a small research about it; I'm often in France for job.

Ampeg V4B could be a good alternative, but here in Italy it costs at least as an old Orange OR120... which I really like a lot!

I've also tried the new Bassman 100T a couple of days ago, and it literally shines: wonderful clean tones, more versatile than its ancient model. Distortions ad overdrives sound really good through it, without losing clarity or becoming too messy. I think it's the first reissue of an old good amp that has really impressed me.

If you're ever in Sweden you're welcome to come jam on mine. Can't recommend A-wai enough.
