I'm basically looking for something that can cover Boss Hyper Fuzz FZ-2 and Heavy Metal HM-2 territory, but I don't trust second-hand BOSS stuff most of the time. If I can get a new pedal that can approximate either or both, that'll keep me happy. Just a really high-gain, nasty distortion that works really well with harmonics and can also get into sticky gross octavey fuzzy territory. If it can handle hard rock-ish stuff, too, that would be a plus.
I CAN get an HM-2 clone for not much more than a used HM-2 on Ebay, so I could just go with that unless someone thinks they have a better suggestion.

I wish this thread could go on for like 40 pages, and people would offer opposing views that would consistently and immediately shift my opinion one way or the other.

Nah, reverb pedals are on their way out, natural reverb is back in.
