The Reset Button

I'm really struggling with the number of pedals on my board that I'm not using and I feel like I need to change things up. Seldom used: Arpanoid, Big Spider, Bit Commander, Rainbow Machine, Tone Reaper, Hoof, and Cloven Hoof. My fuzz needs are satisfied by the Fuck, Terminal, Caprid, and Incinerator. I've given up on pitch shifting. My chorus game is tight (CE-2, yo). I'm mostly satisfied with my delays (Flashback X4, Belle Epoch, No Memory incoming).

Basically, I don't know where to go from here. I could sell off a bunch of these and have a smaller, simpler board, but that's no fun. I'm currently swinging between MBV style shoegaze and Sugar style college rock.

The current chain of things I am using: Aphex Punch Factory>Fuck>Terminal>Incinerator>Caprid>CE-2>Ghost Echo>Monarch>Belle Epoch>Flashback X4

So, should I just like trade/sell all the stuff I'm not using? What should I be looking for?

Dude, your set-up is pretty similar to mine. Sweet!

I dunno, if you don't use them you should sell 'em. But if you're having excessive amounts of fun with the weird effects now and again, it wouldn't hurt having them laying around either. Then again, if you sell them, you can buy new, awesome effects, and maybe come over something that will stay in your semi-permanent chain.

Edit: If you want tips on what to get next, I think you would have loads of fun with the MASF Raptio. I'm finding new uses for it all the time. :joy:

Is there a sound in your Imagination Zone that your current effects aren't achieving?

There's a fuzz in my head that I keep chasing. That broken radio thing, perhaps with white noise hiss. I have no idea where to get that.

I'm curious what your setup looks like, then.

Well, mostly the part with four fuzzes into a couple of delays and a reverb, with a simple modulation in the middle. It's the way to roll, bro.

You should check out the LAL Super Oscillo for that sound. It does tons of broken, weird fuzztones. Best fuzzinvestment I've ever done, kicked various fuzzes off my board leaving me with the golden four of awesomeness.

Was actually thinking a LOT about this yesterday myself.

Make yourself another board with the pedals you aren't using. In a completely different context you may love them

That's what I do before I get rid of everything. I take all the extra pedals off the shelf and make another board to see if it works any differently!

I've gone through this many, many, many times. Hahaha. Where is that fucking thread where I posted all my changes? Good God. Anyway, I'd recommend A/Bing shit and getting rid of the stuff that you don't really use. They're just pedals, it's not like you couldn't obtain them again. Unless they are rare. That Incinerator is one of the last ones that Andrew was going to make though. I'd hang onto that sucker. :) He's going to make smaller ones, but that was a labor of love for me. Hahaha. I know you said you dig it, but I'm just letting you know.

The Earthquaker stuff is great but honestly I've found a lot better stuff. Not without trying out a fuck ton of pedal though. I'm still trying stuff too. I'm getting slower and slower at flipping though. There was a time that I'd literally flip my entire board.

Oh, the Incinerator isn't going anywhere. It is one of the untouchables, like the Punch Factory, Caprid, and Fuck. There is EQD stuff I can't live without, like the Ghost Echo and Monarch. The Hoof and Cloven Hoof were experiments in my Muff quest, but I realized that I just need the Caprid.

You have that three knob Hoof, right chuckjaywalk? If you're thinking about letting it go, hit me up

Yeah, it is a three knob. When I make a decision, I'll shoot you a PM.

I've felt that way before. I have a homemade board that was huge and never filled up but I still felt like I had too much stuff on it. So one day I sawed the thing in half and still use it. It's pretty much filled up right now and there are pedals I want to try and hopefully keep but I'm not upsizing. I kind of like the limitation that's not too limiting. If I still had that massive board, it would be filled with so much junk that I barely used but was still incredibly fun.

My advice - saw fucking everything in half :) Or just try running a smaller board that's not too small so that you feel boring, but not too large so that you feel bored. A happy medium so you have enough peds to still sound like a dickhead swirling buzzsaw when you turn everything on :thumb:
