EQD Monarch as a pre-amp

Anybody using it at the end of their chain to emulate an Orange amp? Workin good? Are there any other Orange pedals/preamps I should know about?
I have band practice at my bassist's house and his other band leaves their gear there. I never bring my amps because his house is a maze and I run stereo so fuck carrying in two amps. I end up playing through an Orange OD15 through a Marshall 4x10. I could never get it to sound perfect with my mustang and fuzz.... until yesterday.

It all fucking clicked, just needed a bit more grit and when I kicked on my fuzz I got the growl I knew Orange amps are known for.
So yeah, I'm looking at the Monarch as a very light overdrive to shove all my shit through. Any other suggestions or experience with the monarch is welcome.

There's the Tech 21 preamp.
And the BYOC one, but I forget what that's called.

I do. It is last in my chain, going into my Sunn. I'm not sure how authentic it is, but it sounds suitably rad with a Muff into it.

Wow never noticed the Oxford in the tech 21 series... good to know there is a second choice if the monarch doesn't pan out.

I can make a shitty video of it tonight, if you like. I've got a few fuzzes I can run into it, your choice. (Hoof, Cloven Hoof, Terminal, Incinerator, Big Spider, Torn's Peaker, Caprid, Bubble Font Russian Big Muff, Tone Reaper)
Do you prefer Strat or P-90 or humbuckers?

That'd be awesome! Hoof and Caprid, and if you have a regular distortion, that'd be rad too. I suppose strat would be best.

I'll go ahead with the Hoof and Caprid. I don't really have any distortions, besides a Fuck or a Hot Cake.

When I had the Monarch I really really dug it, and you can totally use it last as a type of preamp type thing. It's got a decent amount of headroom to it, and doesn't go to complete shit when you stack stuff into it

I think that's a perfectly legitimate application for the Monarch - and many amp-in-box style pedals, especially those that use jfets.

From what i've heard/read/coming from experience with other pedals, it might really help running it on 18V for this sort of application... anyway - sounds like a rad idea!
and OD15 is boss... even though I prefer clean amps I can stack dirt into, this head ROCKED ME HARD

Yeah I was going to use the 18V out on my power supply. And yeah, even though its a low wattage amp I had the input gain down low and had the master volume 3/4s up and his roommate said he hear it from the gas station down the block.

I read "Hot Fuck Cake" and at first I laughed...
Then I thought, I'd love a Hot Cake and a Fuck in one box!!!

I used to use a monarch like this, it's pretty good. Stick a bat pedal in front of it and blast that fucker.

I used it for stacking with fuzz but after changing amp it didnt ut it any more, too much bass for a speedmetalpunk guitar. Cool with bass.
