Traynor YBA1?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a vintage YBA1 head, based solely on the amps reputation, and a ton of clips.
My fender or vox don't quite cut it when it comes to really heavy downtuned stuff. The lows just sound a bit thin and whimpy, no matter which pedal I throw in front of 'em.
Dispite not being a 200W monster with endless clean headroom, I figured the marshall-esque voicing, and the fact that's it's sorta a bassamp, would make it a good amp for all things sludge/doom/stoner...Right?? Anyone else rock one of these amps and play some sort of heavy music?

I'm pretty sure a couple of guys use 'em.
Corey has one, I think.

I have an unmodified 1970 YBA-1 and it's one of my favorite amps, for bass and guitar. Definitely not lacking in lows and well suited for heavy music, as a pedal platform. Our guitarist used mine for one half of his tracks on the Warp Rig demo.

Don't mind at all. $850. Mind you, that includes s&h from the US to Europe, which for something that heavey normally costs close to $200. Still though, I'm aware these amps can be found for less. I blame my inpatience, and the seller's pretty hi res pics:)
The anniversary reissues went for a lot more here in Europe, and they were no were near as 'valuable'...If that makes any sense at all.
I'll see how I like it, but if till then, just out curiousity: To mod or not to mod? Anything in particular to look for or avoid in terms of cabs/speakers?

Traynor's are killer but $850 seems way too high.

Yeah I know. The amp itself was actually more like $700, due to the insanely pricey international shipping. Still not the best deal, I know. To European standards it kinda is though. Anything remotely decent/vintage/PTP can't be found under $1K around here.

Really? I would think you could get Marshalls and Hiwatts cheaper there.

Yeah, to my own surprise, it's become impossible to score a good condition pre-jcm Marshall head for under $1K. The stupid thing is that I bought AND SOLD a bunch of JMP heads just 8 or so years ago when they went for almost half of what they cost now:s
Best Hiwatt deal I found so far, after roughly 16 months of daily checking all the local sites, forums, fleabay, etc: $1350 for a DR504. Not even a vintage one, I'm talking about the newer run from about ten years ago.
It makes little sense anymore to NOT settle for a brand new $400 Jet City or Blackstar head:(

I have a 1974 YBA1. You'll dig it. Great with heavy overdrive or full saturation fuzz, and anything less too. $700 is top end money on one, hope it's been serviced and has new + quality tubes in it. Don't think you'll be bummed though, esp when prices continue to go up on them. Last one I saw locally went for $650, I tried to get it got $500 and no go, got snatched up two days later for asking price.

There's one for $350 kicking around in my area. Plus a YBA-3 for $575. Can't believe no one's picked them up yet at those prices. I'd totally grab both if I could afford it right now.
