Summer 2014 Rough Trade Box

So, like many of you, I've ended up with a massive pile of pedals I don't use and would prefer to get into the hands of people who would use them. My thought: a Trading Tourbox. I figured I would bounce around ideas first. My first instinct is that participation would be limited like the Secret Santa, but I'm unsure.
How it could work:
I assemble a box of 5-8 pedals I am wanting to trade.
I send it to the first person on the list.
IF they want to keep anything in it, they replace it with a pedal of equal value.
The box is sent to the next person on the list and it repeats.
After the list is completed, the box is sent back to me, full of stuff you guys don't want anymore.
Comments, questions, concerns, ideas?

All full up. JWAR is starting this thing. Then it goes down the list.

Yum. I think a confirmation between trader and tradee would make it bulletproof.

The only thing that I see that would need to be added was if I pedal is swapped and replaced, the new pedal comes with a note as to who it is from, so that they all have a clear trace as to who it belonged to. Unless we go in a particular listed order and it's posted in the thread what is being traded after confirmation from both parties

I think I know what you mean, but I am unsure.

We tried this a couple of times at Harmony Central. Both times, people kept taking like 1 good thing, and putting in like 2-4 cheap things in its place until the box became filled with cheap useless junk.

That, and perhaps a list of what was originally in the box, so you don't end up with the same stuff

We could track the contents of the box as it travels. A log of the contents and what has come and gone. Also, there would definitely need to be limits on what can be put in. Like, no Danelectro or DS-1s. Well, unless they are nice DS-1s.

I'd suggest having a minimum post count for participating members. People who post a lot and participate in the community are more likely to follow the rules and not be dicks.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, ala Secret Santa.

there's a certain cache of pedals that seem to cycle through the b/s/t, so as a sort of expansion of that it makes sense. What happens if you decide you don't need/want whatever you kept after
the tourbox run ended? Would you add it back into another one, or list it up for trade (maybe with first dibs to anyone who was in on that particular run)?

That is an interesting question. One format I had considered was based on the format Artist Trading Card swaps work from. It would include a bit more shipping, initially, but might reduce the amount of teeth gnashing later:
1. A list of participants is created, as are a set of rules about minimum value/condition/etc.
2. Each participant sends the organizer, likely myself, the pedal they want to enter into the swapbox.
3. The organizer selects one pedal they want to swap for and puts in the pedal they want to swap.

This is a cool idea. One I will work towards being able to participate in with this post.
Though I'm doubting I'd be able to match very much price-wise with the things I don't use.

I have to stop selling all my gear off so I can participate. I currently own 3 pedals, not including my tuner.
This time next week, however, I will own 4 new ones, so...
Anyways, this sounds like a rad idea. I'd definitely be down to participate if I have anything I'm not using by then.

Cool idea. Count me in if this happens!
