Is there something about the percussion tremolos (EQD Hummingbird, Seppuku Repeater, etc) that makes them different from other tremolos and does that mean I can't get that sound from one of the do-it-all tremolos that have a square wave option (like the Empress, Semaphore, or Tap-A-Whirl)?

The Vox Repeat Percussion is a reverse sawtooth; it has very distinctive delay-like choppy attack thing that normal tremolo effects can't do. Square wave chop isn't the same.
The only general tremolo pedals that occur to me which may be able to do some sort of reverse sawtooth are the EHX Stereo Pulsar and the Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter - they both let you change the weight of the attack.

Hmmm, the Tap a whirl manual says it can do sawtooth and reverse sawtooth. I'll have to give it a try. Every time I watch that Fuzzhugger YouTube video with the Seppuku Repeater I get closer to ordering one, though.
Thanks for the info, Ro_S!

Okay, fair enough. Good show. There you go - well, if you want a tremolo that has more broader applications all-in-one.
A lesser known but good boutique one is the made by Mesopo..something or the other.
I have the North Effects one. It's fine. It only controls rate though.
I've got this one below, but this is in UK.

I would be wary of ordering anything directly from Seppuku as he has been "too sad" to build pedals recently because he broke up with his boyfriend or girlfriend. I have been waiting for quite some time now for something he originally quoted me as taking a week.
To add another option....Acid Fuzz Sonic Boom which also has a distortion and booster circuit in it.

+1 on the Sonic Boom, that vox repeater is awesome and it also has an f/x loop between the booster/fuzz and the repeater.

Does it also come with a bank loan application form? ;p

He does give the schematics of the original vox circuits on his website, so maybe someone could build the repeater for less monies.

@Ro_S: would you please slim down your advertisment signature a bit? Thanks in advance.

trems that have a shape type control, like the tremolescence, will turn a triangle wave into a sawtooth/reverse

Zvex sonar also achieves this well. And many more. You had the ability to set the wave shape and the onset of it. Did repeat percussion perfectly and much more.

it uses a unijunction (pulse emitter) which is why it sounds like that, 2n2646
