I gots me a new soldering iron. It's 48 watts, which I know is too much-- but I figure since it's got a temp control, that shouldn't matter (could be wrong... whatever.)

ANYWAYS... I found some conflicting info with Google, so I wanna ask here (where people actually solder stuff)

What temps do you use for soldering PCBs?

Also, what temps would be best for guitar work and jacks and stuff?

Never thought about it.
My solder station has a control but no temp meter.
Based on the rated temps of the irons, I'd guess around 700-750 max for pc boards and smaller stuff (27 watt iron).
Around 800 works quickly on Jacks, and the backs of pots without frying them (40 watt iron).

Some times I just use the 40 watter for most every thing and just roll back the voltage.

For chassis grounds, I drag out my 80 watter.

I just realized that this iron only works in Celsius. HAH! Imma have to learn it. It's a better system anyhow...

Thanks! I'll set my stuff to about those temps. I read that at one place, then read about 600 degrees elsewhere. I've never had a temp control-- just cheapo irons.
