High gain brootals pedlol on the cheap?

Not sure if this subject is like blasphemy around here, cause in a way the sort of pedal I'm thinking of buying is the exact opposite of most fuzz pedals. It's normally the last sort of dirt pedal I'd buy myself, but my lastest band, as well as my taste for somewhat more tight/modern tones has pushed me towards more metal oriented gear.
The band's not really going anywhere though, and I only spend serious money on fuzz ofcourse:)
So I wanna spend as little as possible. I only tried about 4 pedals so far, all from EHX, MXR, and Boss. Frankly, they didn't really impress me at all. And I'd also rather stay away from chinese behringer/biyang/mooer/etc crap, I've had a couple less-than-great experience with that category of super cheap effects brands.
A used Barber dirty bomb might be a possibility. I gets a ton of love online, though I'm not sure how much of that is just coming from Barber fan boys and boutique snobs:s
Anyone tried the Hardwire metal distortion (forget what it's called) or the Blackstar HT-2? Anything else I should check? I'd prefer something small and pedalboard friendly, and if at all possible it'd be great if I find something that's true bypass. Some sort of control over the eq would be nice as well, just one tone knobbie seems a bit too limiting for a pedal like that.
Cheers!
