opinion on late 90s p-bass deluxe?

Post by UnicornTrap »

Hey folks,

Thought I'd get an opinion here before I go over the deep end. Does anyone have any experience with a 1998 or late 90s Fender US p-bass deluxe? I saw one used in my frequented guitar shop today, and I seemed to have bonded with it a bit. Everything was stock so it had the P J and some kinda humbucker. Does anyone know if those are active-only? Can you get a passive tone out of it??? My current bass that I've had since around 1997 is a carvin lb-75 with a mahogany body/back neck with an ebony fretboard. I think I'm just kinda looking for a change, despite the sentimental value. My carvin is generally active with a 3 knob EQ, but, I had it built with an active/passive toggle. I've found that the fuzz tends to prefer the passive pickups - it depends on the situation. Sometimes I like active when going through a DI

Anyway, it looked exactly like this guy's random image off the internet:

I'm considering going in there tomorrow (to pick up my tele because they do an amazing job of re-stringing those vintage U tuners compared to me :picard: ) and asking if they were interested in a trade for what I have now. Price wise I think it is about a wash
