ILF band alert: The Weaks kick ass

So last night, I went out to see The Weaks, the band of ILFer (though he hasn't posted a ton lately) Wizard, featuring OG ILFer aussy. It was a great friggin' time. For one thing, both Wizard and aussy are super sweet, and we chatted before & after their set. For another, the band was great, and the songs kicked major amounts of ass. The songs walked a perfect line between songwriting and shoegazing, and the band featured a TRIPLE-SG ATTACK. Yes, all THREE guitar players were rocking some variant of an SG. And the bass player was rocking a BAT Revelation through an Orange Thunderverb, so you know that sounded like doom on wheels. And one of the guitar players (Chris) had a nice little oscillation solo on his Carbon Copy in which he actually managed to get a melody out some well-played knob twisting. He also had some SWEEET MBV-glide guitar bends (without use of a whammy bar - impressive!).

Moral of the story: if The Weaks come to your town, go see them, even if it's on a Wednesday. They will set up on the floor of the venue even if there's a stage (maybe), and they will rock your socks off (definitely).

Also, their tourmates Ma Jolie were TIGHT AS HELL, and the bass player had literally the best bass sound I have heard in my life, bar none. It was pretty spectacular. I haven't listened to their album yet, so I don't know if it comes across in recordings, but they were amazeballs across the board.

Sadly, I forgot to bring my camera, and my phone pix were beyond horrible. Alas.

Dat right dere is an impressive re-view.

If those bands are half as good as this review, we're golden.

I gave up being jaded about bands I like a long time ago. If I dig yer band, I'm typically that weirdo grinning manically and head-bopping right up front. There were a couple of moments last night when someone would click on a particularly narshty fuzz and I involuntarily shouted "YEAH!"

:picard:

I'm only getting weirder and less guarded at shows as I get older, too...

Pretty much that, precisely.

Damn, they're really good. The Weaks reminds me of Diarrhea Planet, and that's super wonderful.

Wiz and Aussy are super sweet dudes and their band is fuckin awesome. We've been trying to get our schedules aligned so we can do some shows together (or maybe even a little tour) in the future, 'cuz that'd be super rad.

Wizard is hella talented. Dangerous Ponies are still one of my faves even though they broke up, and this record is great! Will be listening to this a whole bunch more.

They are indeed super sweet, and if you manage to set up a little Weaks / Dollys tour, you need to come through Providence. It's a moral imperative.
