Please give examples of Drop C (or other low tunings) used in a non-metal context such as country, folk, etc. I'd also be interested in hearing 7/8 string guitars in that context as well.

This is totally cheating, but there are those acoustic intros/interludes that metal bands do. I mean, yes it's a metal band, but the actual guitar piece itself isn't metal.
Just an example, the intro to Dream Theater's Change of Seasons is a 7-string acoustic playing in B:

One of my Faves, from right here in Wisconsin. The guitars are in C, the baritone might be lower yet.
Kind of like GodSpeed...

Oh yeah, if we're going the Post-Rock route, Jakob plays in a crazy tuning. I read in an interview that Jeff tunes his guitar down to C standard and then drops the low and high strings down to Bb.

Marc Ribot used quite a bit of drop Bb on his "Silent Movies" album, which is fantastic, and very much not metal.

I have my jazzmaster tuned in C# right now and i've been hauling ass on some surf riffs. It sounds awesome.
But then again I haven't played in standard in months..

I know it isn't really a help, but I wrote a few songs in open G#m (I think), an octave down. It was kind of bluegrass doom/country dirge/Drone cajun
So it is doable if I can do it.

is acoustic metal a thing? like classical guitars drop tuned with spanish-esque metal riffs and solos
and not folk metal
