Death Metal pedalboard

The other day i got a Boss HM2...and i love it through my marshall.

I was already working on a small pedalboard...and now i want to dedicate that new board to being my death metal board.

I have 6 spots to fill, one is the boss hm2 which leaves 5 other effects. What else would i need?

For reference, I'm playing old stuff like Obituary, entombed, napalm death etc.

Forgo the pedalboard and dime your amp.

Whammy, tuner, comp, HM2, chorus, delay....suppressor in there somewhere.

when you say Whammy...you mean the digitech Whammy right? not a wah pedal?

i've never used a whammy before...seems like a hard pedal to master.

apart from the Whammy...the rest is what i was thinking too.

Nah, whammy is actually pretty easy.
And yes, whammy, not wah.
EQD pitch bay might be more up your alley.
What sort of chorus/mod do you like?
Boss digital dimension is nasty, and would suit I think, but maybe something closer to a flanger might suit?
Waiting for goroth to recommend the cosmichorus...

trying to keep this pedalboard cheap and nasty!

trying to keep to old boss, DOD, MXR and obscure japanese stuff...but cheap.

I'm thinking:
Noise gate (ISP which i have)
Tuner (Poly which i have)
Compressor (either Boss CS3 or the DOD milkbox)
HM2 (already have)
Chorus (MXR micro or something similar)
Delay (MXR Carbon Copy which i have)

Instead of chorus, that pitch effect sounds interesting...i'm going to look into those you mentioned.

Yeah dude, I think you got it nailed there.
There was a dod flange from years back that sounded pretty sweet. Failing that, boss chorus or cheapo mxr will do the trick.
Yeah, suss the pitch bay...it is pretty fucking amazeballs.
But, you can get used whammys on the cheap so....
Edit: failing that, Boss PS-5 or 6.
Summit swears by his.
I think he has both.

a Boss PS-5 and/or 6 could be used as your whammy/pitch shifter or if you're in detune mode its a pretty sweet chorus. you could kill few birds with one... pedal. :idk:
i just got one and i love it. :!!!:

The only other thing I would suggest besides what you already laid out would be an auto wah/fixed wah. If you don't like the wah wah sound a fixed wah can be cool to get that pinched filter sound that can help you on solos to stand out.

Yeah i did think about that...but i don't play solo's so as rhythm guitarist the wah wouldn't get used...on my doom board i have wah, as i use it on cleans and some riffs as well.

Just had a listen to a demo of the PS6...i can see how useful it would be. Immediately thought about Death and Human album with all those harmonies, with this pedal i could do all that myself. Like you say, its a pretty lush chorus too...and its stereo output which means i can run both heads at the same time...but given its pitch shifting, it would have to be before dirt...makes that feature useless...right?

The Boss PS- 5 is a fun pedal, does the glitchy pitch shifting I really like, where the PS-6 is probably a bit more well rounded, non glitchy, and to me, I think the harmonist function tracks better too. The Boss PS-3 is my favorite as it offers some wicked reverse delay, but woud probaly be better suited to a post rock/metal board and cost a bit of change if you can find one.

I'd probably find somthing to use in place of the compressor, although not knowing the specifics of your rig, my expierence with the Hm-2 and a compressor combined yeilded me mud city, pobably be better served with some sort of boost, od, or eq pedal in that slot.

Yep. Put a ts9 instead of the comp. ts into HM-2 is a great tight modern sound, should you ever need to leave the sunlight sound. I'd ditch the noise gate for a harmoniser, and keep the chorus. The mxr 1 knobber is super good. I only have a ps-5 but I think it tracks better and sounds better after distortion.

Oh yeah.... Cosmichorus!!!
