I'm a guitar player, but I recently acquired a cheap bass for home recording.
What dirt pedals are good for bass?
Is it all about Rats and Russian Big Muffs?
thanks

Seek ye the land of Dunwich and Black Arts, find the blue bearded one. He shall be your measure.

Werd.
If you can't make a Black Arts pedal work, there's something wrong with you.
(usually, they turn out to be volume-o-phobes)

Yusss. The Elements rips on bass. And guitar. So good.
I think the Mini is an awesome bass OD, especially if you play with a pick and even more especially if you're using a short scale.

Never had a mini though a regular fuck works well also. I like the elements the most for its wide range of tones and full eq. It also sounds more like a fuzz with bass than with guitar.

Aside from those mentioned already (and aside from Rat of Muff variants), the EQD Monarch for OD. Great at low gain and high gain. Malekko Diabolik for fuzz. But there are tons of great options these days.

Over the last 10 or so years, I've tried more dirt and fuzz pedals than I dare count. I've whittled it down to the Tone Machine, the Elements, and the Hair of the Dog. Those 3 pedals along with my amp get me pretty much any bass dirt/fuzz tone I can think of. The only thing I really lack at this point is a really raspy old-school fuzz tone (and I have a project fuzz that has a fuzzrite in it that I just need to troubleshoot).

I play a Fuzzrocious Demon into a grey spec DOD 250. I love the OCD circuit on its own as an always on, low growl type of dirt, and the DOD I slap on for extra dirt at times. For crazy stuff I enjoy both my TAFM and Bluebeard. Rat's are cool too, I used to use my Rat Tail all the time until the Demon replaced it.

Sorry to hit the bandwagon but the TAFM is so damn good. Fuck is super nice too, mini even better.
Regular Algal Bloom doesn't bring the low end enough but I bet the Bass Bloom is completely killer on bass.
For something a bit different I think the upper is AMAZING.
Rats are awesome.
IE Oxide is supes cool.
Also BAT bring them lowz.

I have been using a BAT Ritual recently. Simple and glorious in it's filth.
