The time has come for my band to renew its domain name. But I started thimkimg the following
Are traditional websites relevant these days?
If the above answer is no, is FB the best alternative?
If you do social media should you do more than one?
Should we keep the domain name just to be pro as fuck or is that so 2006 as well?

Well, thanks to some stupid new facebook policiy, artist pages now only get their messages across to about 3 % of the people that likes their page so I think it wouldn't be enough to just have facebook.
Here, read this article, I got it from there:

Honestly, I haven't gone to a "band website" in a bajillion years unless it's to buy a record from an estore.
But I don't have a facebook either so I typically only use bandcamp/soundcloud and such....

It's good to have a website domain to increase the search relevance of your band name, however the website itself isn't of much importance. You can easily just have it redirect to a Bandcamp page for example.
I use Bandcamp more than anything else, and I think that and Facebook will cover most of your internet bases.

I kinda hate it when people/groups do shit like that. It's like it's kind of a cop out or something...
so disappointing...
but then again, I'm sorta a diehard traditionalist (or maybe even a Luddite) or something like that in some matters of that sort.
I vote for nice website.

I feel the same way.

If you do decide to have a traditional website, be sure to have a Flash intro with sound.

But only if you want to piss off most people...

So basically, more crucifix lasers = more fans??
I guess another aspect is being torn between wanting to utilise all of the new ways there are to communicate contra having to keep shit up to date and consistent across multiple platforms.
Thanks for the ideas dudes, everything is helpful.
I guess we need to figure out what we want to communicate. But shit, what the hell does a band communicate any more? The scene here is tough for new bands, and even bands like Opeth and Meshuggah play to bigger crowds overseas than here, so nothing feels "organic" for us. We want to make a bit of noise and get some cooler gigs, that's enough of a short term goal. Hmm...

Even after reading this whole thread, I realized I hadn't actually checked out your band.
I'll do so now.
I guess just make it easy for people to click one link and hear your tunes. I'm all about supporting bands but nothing makes me more annoyed than reading retweets every time some ahole drops a tweet or comment or blatantly oversaturating my feeds. Like I have 4000+ records/tapes/cds and am interested in a lot of fucking bands. I'm going to remember you if your music is cool, not if drop a tweet every 6 seconds.
Or, enrich my life somehow like Stephen O'Malley's feed, which is way more than just "yo buy my cd please" and I actually like a lot of links he posts.
I know this isn't about twitter specifically but you see where I'm going with this I hope.....

Good post man. Will check out Stephen o's feed!
The band - I just really want to record new stuff! The songs we have recorded aren't very well recorded and are more traditional than where we are at now. Dunno, maybe the autumn we'll record.
