Acid Pig vs. Rat Tail on Bass ? (or whatever roaring bass OD

In the pursuit of a responsive roaring psuedo-amp style OD that plays well with other dirt pedals I was led to try out the Mini , but it seemed to not be bassy enough to sit well by itself and a bit too lo-fi throughout it's range to work with extremely boomy/muffy fuzzes that I normally use. I wanted something a bit chimier, "clearer", and hairier , specifically for use with the Ric 4003 as the "clean" dirty sound .
I'm looking into a bassy RAT as the remedy. Possibly won't feel amp-like or responsive enough, or a touch too hi-gain throughout, but we'll see. It's a classic enough to be worth a try.
Earthbound Audio was a great company and their Supercollider is my main fuzz, so I thought what better stacking than with an Acid Pig ? But upon ILF searches realizes lots of people prefer the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail . What are some of the determining factors for you fine folks ? How do they each play with fuzz before them ?
Opinions? Sway me one way or another ?
Though perhaps the RAT circuit is a bit too high gain in general and not touch sensitive enough, it's definitely close to what I hear the "most distorted" end to be like of the perfect OD [Also : John Wetton is my god]. If anyone has any other recommendations for an extremely grindy bass distortion instead, please let me know.

Try a keeley or Penney pedals modded DS-1. Very touch responsive and can go from a light OD (especially with a diode lifted) to a roaring distortion. OR if you feel up to it you could try modding it yourself. It's pretty easy and both the PP and keeley mods are pretty well documented. I socketed a bunch of components and ended up with a cross between the two. It is the one pedal I have that I will not ever get rid of. I bought it com devi about 5 years ago and I have been using it ever since as my always on dirty sound.

There was a Geminidrive in BST awhile ago that you might want to check out.

I prefer my Iron Pig on guitar and my Rat Tail with 2nd distortion mod on bass. The low/hi clipping controls on the Rat Tail make it easy to tailor to bass. Both are pretty responsive and dynamic but once you push the gain up a bit you lose that natural OD flavor and things start getting mean sounding.
Both the Fuck and the Elements sound great on bass. Elements if you want huge variety and gain range.

Never played my Acid Pig with a bass till now. I like it a lot better with my thunderbird over my roommate's passive jag bass. I liked it best with just the LM308 doing the clipping, definitely touch responsive which is why I love it for guitar. With the Jag bass's single coils though it didn't kick out as much low end and seemed too bright. The thunderbird has a pretty dark tone to it already so I suppose that balanced well with the Acid Pig.
Overall though I don't think it'd be the best for bass, I get the impression even just plugging guitar into it. It becomes a one trick pony pretty quick.

hate to be that guy
but Elements
if i want to get a bit loose but agressive and biting, I use Mini, when I want HEAVY rumble (also a bit Ratish with the right settings), I turn on the Elements

Rats are great for low gain OD. Around 10:00 is really responsive to dynamics. On guitar at least.
But the elements is also really great for low gain OD and I feel like the voicing might be better suited for bass.

Elements for mad range options, B3k for the best sounding OD on bass.
but i'm biased. it sounds EXACTLY like what i think of when i think of grindy clank balunkans.

Interesting. The B3k just sounds fizzy and artificial to me, almost like a digital modeling type of distortion.
