24hrs in I haven't found any "usable" flanger or phase sounds..... I have found enough snyth-y madness that I'm honestly considering selling my Grendel....

Can I get spacious swirly sounds for pairing with my stringed depravity? No.

I'm going to spend sometime with the modezero manual, as modulation isn't something I easily or naturally wrap my noggin' 'round. It seems like the Hoax has the possibility of being an instrument in and of itself. Need to figure out how to manipulate this one - I've got enough stuff for random noise and knob twittling, and this is too pricey to just be another one of those. I'd initially made a space for this on my main guitar/dirt/delay board, needing something for a little extra movement, but it's probably going to end up on the noise/synth/mixer board.

But it is indeed sexy. Blips and bloops, moans and groans, nasty wet protrusions of sound. It ungulates. While my borderline pornographic descriptions are also due to my general sense of levity and immaturity, they are also entirely fitting. No wonder the bluez lawyer set didn't like these.

You can also make it make whale noises. I played a set where I had four different pedal chains running into a mixer, no instruments. One pedal chain started with a contact mic, one started with a Flanger Hoax, one started with a fucked Small Stone v3 I have that will self oscillate at the start of a pedal chain, one started with an EHX RTG. Didn't realize how heavily dependent that set up was upon EHX now that I think about it!

I've got a 15 or 20 minute clip of me just making insane oscillation noises with the flanger hoax, I remember we just kept the recording going one day, because I knew we'd be able to pull a bunch of little sound-effect clips out of it for random songs in the future. I'll try to dig it up.

But the hoax is definitely capable of making "normal" flanger and phaser sounds, it just takes understanding what all of the controls actually DO to find them. You're right that it's much easier to just make dolphin-orgy sounds with it.
