What's that sound!?

Anyone care to guess what's going on with the lead guitar around 5:30 in this track?
Sounds like tremolo>reverse delay>another delay? What say y'all?

That's a nice sounding ramp wave tremolo with a delay and possibly some reverb I'd say, the ramp wave has the effect of making it sound reversed a bit.

Super slow ramp wave? Didn't even occur to me.
Thanks, dude!

Wait, I might be wrong though, I was listening to the guitar in the back, did you mean to say the melody is actually played by a guitar?
That sounds like a synth to me.
I'm a bit confused because you mention the 5:30 mark but the melody starts well before that.

The guitar part I'm talking about takes prominence over the violin lead at around 5:30. Not talking about the semi-ostinato backing guitar line.
Just having a good idea about the Godspeed guys' gear, it ruled out synth for me, since I've not seen an instance of them playing one as GY!BE or ASMZ...Figured it was some of Moya's effect wizardry. I could be wrong, though
I've heard that kind of effect in a lot of albums recently and I love it and want it for my own noisemaking

I was gonna say it sounds like they're torturing a small animal, but that's neither a very helpful observation nor their thing.

Right, you can disregard my previous reaction then as I was talking about the other part, I think on the part you're referring to there's some kind of envelope (ADSR) or volume pedal swells and (envelope) filtering going on, together with some sort of (reverse) ping pong delay.
Maybe a Micro Synth into a delay can get into the ballpark, I'll investigate that.
EDIT:
I tried it and that's most definitely a way to do it, I forgot about the fast vibrato though, there has to be a vibrato in there.
So basically it's:
volume swells / ADSR -> warm style drive / fuzz with enough overtones -> envelope filter with low resonance in a specific narrow frequency range -> fast vibrato -> delay (possibly ping pong, reverse)
The Micro Synth is naturally great for this type of stuff because it has the ADSR (attack delay), adjustable filter (start freq + stop freq) and the right style fuzz rolled into one.

I'm interested to hear what you get out of that combo!
Are there any envelopes you would recommend to possibly get near to that filtering they get? That's an effect that I know next to nothing about

Buyaka, that's not an easy one, I'm not sure, I guess it should be a bandpass filter with adjustable resonance and attack and it has to play nicely with your volume swells or ADSR pedal of course.
I think I saw a Micro Synth floating around on BST here for next to nothing though, I have the Bass Micro Synth which is also fine for guitar (even better in my opinion), it can also double as a nice ADSR pedal and you can get an endless variety of cool sounds out of it.

I just listened again, it definitely sounds backwards and sped up.
