Sitar Droning (w/ an EHX?)

I have read the slander about the Ravish Sitar.
It has been duly noted.
My question is more about using it with something like a ditto to create a monotonous one chord siter-ESQUE drone (close enough is good enough) to play NOT-sitar sounding stuff over the top of.
Anyone done that?
Also, how does it cope with stupid low tunings (drop A for now, maybe drop F one day)?
The freeze function also interests me. Wouldn't mind hearing about that in this sort of application if you've done that.
Cheers, peoples.

Popes, if I'm reading this right, wouldn't you have an easier time doing this with a distortion pedal and a freeze?

The Ravish Sitar has a "drone" switch on it. I believe you have to hold the switch for it to continue to drone but you could have it hold onto the Sympathetic string sounds and play over the top of that.

i've done this but using an Android phone app called Tanpura Droid. it's free. lets you choose the pitch, speed, strings. i just run my phone into a mixer or a Boss LS2 and just let it drone on. sounds pretty good to me.

I
do want the siter-esque sounds without having to tune strange. If I wasn't particularly after that, I would definitely be pursuing it the way you have suggested.

Awesome.
To elaborate on my answer to DoS though, I wanted to kind of just play a chord so that it loops and sounds like a chord being played over and over again in the background. From what I gather about the RS freeze function though, it sustains what you've played ad infinitum, yeah?
Which, is still a cool function. Not unemployable.

Fuck....that sounds pretty cool. I'm gonna suss that. Thanks dude!

Yeah when they first came out I was pretty keen on them. I'm not entirely familiar with their functionality though. Do they loop or just freeze a moment and do that granular thang?

Update: I think I'm just gonna go the droid tanpura route for now.
Maybe eventually get one of these:
If only because the tone control is voiced "Ladies" to "Gents".

Never tried anything like this when I had mine, but seems like a cool idea. I thought that pedal was awesome, I seriously regret selling it. I didn't know there was any slander

I saw Cisneros use one of those very briefly on the God is Good tour. Or, at least, he had one, but they didn't play Thebes, so he didn't use it.

Yeah, I heard they were kicking one of these around. I have a feeling that they might be employing its use a little more these days?
