So every now and again I look at the record label name printed on cd's or records. most of the time I forget to, but sometimes I do a quick search and see what else that label has put out. I'll pick the things with wackiest names and see how awesome they are. For example today I finally grabbed a physical copy of on avery island by neutral milk hotel. it was put out by merge records. a quick look at merge artists revealed a band called erectus monotone. cool name, never heard of them before.

yeah, that's the way that people used to find music before the internet.
It's no game.

It was only half my intention to sound awful, the other half was edutainment.
I'm just sayin' label loyalty stands for a lot.

For sure. I frequently found some great bands via labels, and label ads in magazines, like I always find Decibel has Relapse or Prosthetic Lore ads with bands I enjoy and I'll check out other bands mentioned in the same ad. Southern Lord is another label where I frequently give their signed bands a chance.
Sam's also one of my best sources of new music. Foreverandeverandever

Ah, the good old days.
It sure was more expensive, though.

Ummm most recent discovery based on label loyalty was checking out Nothing - Guilty of Everything since Relapse was real excited about them. That turned out to be an awesome discovery.

Nice, I'll have to suss that.
Remember when you used to just trawl through the Cds/records at the record shop and on a whim, pick up something gnarly you'd never heard of?
Excitement.
I suppose the youtube recommendations is like the modern equivalent.

Definitely. I don't miss dropping dollars on albums that did not deliver on their implication of awesome.

I picked up a bunch of $1 cds from the local record store a while back based on name alone. Two of the standouts (musically and in name) were Behold... The Arctopus and Andy Pond and the CX-1 Black Hole Bluegrass Boys.

We should make some bootleg FfoM relapse stickers and invade our local record stores with them.
4 Non-Blondes, "for fans of Mastodon, feminism, armpit hair."
