Ohemgee like where do I put my ring mod?

Since I'm not at the house right now to try this out I thought I'd ask where everyone puts their ring mods at in their chain and why.
I've read a lot of responses about putting it after the distortion/fuzz, but they've really failed to give me a technical response as to why other than "More frequencies breh."
When I get home tonight I'll dismantle my board and switch it around a little let everyone know my opinions. (People like follow up right?)
I have a Mf-102 BTW

There's not really a technical answer that works for any of these questions, it's all about what sounds best to you! That said I have lots of fuzz because I like the sound of every other effect both before and after so it's nice to have both options in a tasty fuzz sandwich.

I've struggled with Ring Mod placement as well. I'm going to ditto mokeydancer's answer, and also throw in that when I had it I seemed to almost use it as a modulation effect post dirt. But for more usable tones, pre dirt would be more subtle

I really like it before my fuzzes which is the way I have it set up now, but I never tried it after my fuzz. I was just hoping someone could describe the sound of a fuzzed out signal going into a ring mod before I went home and dismantled my board for the tenth time this week, I think I'll just start trying every new pedal in every possible combo before putting it on my board.
Just from the responses I was reading it just sounded like I was missing out on a sonic euphoria because I was running the ring mod before my fuzzes :/. We'll know for sure when I get home if I'm not raptured into noise heaven.

A lot of people seem to be putting them in their modulation sections before their delays and reverbs. I was planning on using it by it self obviously but also to generate a tone from my SOMMS feed that into my Pitchgrinder and then into the ring mod and fuzz that out, but fuzzing out the pitch grinder and then running that into a ring mod sounds even more insane.

I would have thought ring mod before fuzz, unless you're going for noise freak out crazy crazy stuff. Fuzz adds a lot of harmonic content to your signal, which is going to interact in different ways with the modulated signal, and at a guess it's going to sound less clean, less predictable.. maybe? Putting a fuzz after the ring mod instead means you are feeding a signal that is already summed and "done" to the fuzz. I've actually never tried my ring mod before fuzz. Gig board is not at home so I can't test it.
Colour me intrigued.

It feels like before fuzz it smooths out the ring mod and the carrier frequency gets lost in the fuzz (sometimes it makes for awesome combative tones where they fight for dominance in the fuzzed-out signal). After fuzz it feels a lot harsher, running wolf computer>bass octave>ring thing is definitely one of my favorite tones. I feel like it could be used as weapon. It's awesome.
I'm pretty sure that Health uses ring mod after fuzz on the bass for the super-grindy, robot tones.
Also, when trying out new gear it's just good to try it before and after everything, and in every combo you can muster.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm just going to start rearranging my board tonight and try everything I've been wanting to try including reverb before fuzz. I've also heard of sticking the ring mod at the end of the chain and using it to mess with the delays. Would be interesting to try sweeping the frequency of the Moogerfooger with an EXP pedal while the repeats are going.

At least when I had my Randy's Revenge, it completely took all of the balls out of my fuzz if I had it after my ECT, like it better before so I could at least use it and fuzz at the same time.

I actually like it after fuzz, but before modulation and delays.

This was my experience with the randy, but then that's a different ring mod so maybe the moog sounds amazing after fuzz!

Reverb before fuzz is amazzzzzzing, one of my favourite sounds ever. Never again will I make a board where I can't do that.

I have my Vitruvian Mod first in the chain after tuner. But thats mostly because a lot things messed with the tracking, which was cool in some scenarios but much less usuable all together. I think even if I had a standard ring mod, I would still keep it first. Dirt into ring mod makes me feel too robotular for my tastes. I would probably move it after modulation pedals though (still keep modulation pre fuzz).
But none of that means that there aren't great usable tones in any mixing and matching

i have my RR after fuzz and the Goodbye 24, and before everything else (delay, filter, modulation, reverb). i think the subtle aspects of the RR would get lost if i ran it before dirtz, and anyway i have to have the gb24 and the RR together so the expression pedal inputs are accessible.

I put it after dirt and filters to get that vocal formant sort of tone. Not as effective as a bit crusher or SSR, but gets close enough. Then into modulation, delays, and verb. Sounds sexy to me.

Here's that follow up I promised. I rearranged my board and am loving reverb before fuzz it's exactly what I wanted it too sound like. I started using the trem style setting on my MF more and it sounded atrocious running before fuzz so I'm rearranging my board before I go to sleep tonight and hopefully I won't have to do it again until I get my Harem Fuzz.
