Ok so I put a down payment towards a Nelson Dilettante Bass VI. I was thinking of doing something similar to this guy but black instead of purple. Thoughts?

Purple is the greatest, but black would be second greatest.

Matte back with a nice titanium anodized guard would look sick!

I think it would look good with gold, too. gold pick guard, that is. that shit is sick.

Oh yeah, the matte back and anodized pickguard sounds great, you could also just have only the top in coloured lacquer maybe?
I'd also get a full maple neck like on the one shown because I like maple.
Otherwise I don't know what options there are really.
I think Bobby said something about a new humbucker or something, if it's ready I'd get those on there.

Black with gold guard? I'm gonna say leave neck-through clear/natural finished with that.

Great thoughts, I think I will try to get him to match the output on my other bass vi style guitar. I'm also thinking one volume with both outputs on since that's how I set my other bass all the time.

I love everyones ideas and that body style BUT i personally hate that bridge cut out on the pickgaurd. If Nelson could cut the guard in two peices leaving the pickups and bridge open and allowing full view of the neck stripe, that would look sick. Something like a teisco.

Ooh, that's a very nice idea too indeed, or maybe only have the second half of the pickguard below the neck part then?
I don't know for sure but I think that could be awesome too! :)

I think that would look FANTASTIC in black. It'd be a great contrast to the maple neck, and I think the silver pickguard/pickups would look much better with black than gold would.

Oh, but I'd go for a black headstock veneer rather than the white on that one, go for the matching headstock look!

I think the purple is amazing, stick with that!

Also, just my opinion and observation, when i first opened the thread and saw the guitar the first thing i thought of was easter decorations. Maple neck, pastel purple :idk: i love purple...just not that one.

So heres a vote for matte black and split aluminum guard...and an arcade button killswitch.
