ok got a great soundcard
but the only outputs on the breakout cable is 2 xlr's (one left channel one right channel)
all i really need to do right now is get this output to my headphones.
so you would probably say, obviously, you need a Y cable to a female 1/4", or a headphone amp.
the cheapest headphone amp i can find to do this is about $160 bucks and is a rack unit (i have the exact model's name here somewhere)
thing is, thats a lot of money to achieve only one thing, also i do not have an rack case, and yadda yadda.
so insetad of that, ive been trying to find a cable with 2 female xlr's to a jack that i can plug my headphones into. not sure any exist though.
thanks dudes

Don't look for headphone amps.
Look at little mixers. XLR to channel 1, pan hard left. XLR 2 to channel 2, pan hard right. Profit.

You could set the output on the software you are using to the built in audio and just plug you headphones into you computer.

Whether that works depends on the software, but yea.
And the little Alesis thing is serviceable, I have one. It's not best in class mic preamps or anything but they work and it has no issues.
I got it for phantom power for some condensers on the cheap and it does admirably to handle them.
If you want FX loop, look at any mixer. Used big ones are cheap if you've got the space and portability isn't an issue.

your interface doesn't have its own headphone output?

it's a lynx l22. the breakout cables usually have a headphone out but these are really nice upgraded custom cables - and they only have 2xlr ins and 2xlr outs for the analog breakout.
theres built in sound on the mobo of my pc, headphone jacks on real and front panels. as far as i know, i cant "bridge" these 2 separate audio devices and use the headphone out on the stock soundcard while recording with the lynx.
even if i could, this would also use extra system resources.
that chea plittle berhinger mixer i linked to should do the job. id ilke to have something i can use for running a vocal mic thru some fx, which is why i wanted an fx loop

oh wow, pci interface! u don't see those too often these days.
i know on the mac there is way to "aggregate" sound cards, which basically means to combine multiple soundcards into one. i dunno about pc doe.

it would be nice to be able to disable the onboard sound device altogether. my video card has audio out via hdmi, so i use that if i want to watch porn i mean house of cards. working on music i use the cans (monitors in the future) the cans are some really nice audio technicas i spent about 150 on them
yes, l22 is a pci device. the reason i got it is because it is known for having amazing a/d converters. i only record left channel/right channel at once. it does have digital breakout for other interfaces that do not really apply to me

korean epi casino --> pedals --> '67 ampeg reverberocket with replacement weber --> sm57 & AT 4050 --> FMR "really nice pre" --> lynx
i am considering getting a cheap tascam 4 track just for guitar overdubs. i toyed with the idea of getting a tascam 2 track reel-to-reel but thats a bit more serious.
have the Waves plugin suite, which is amazing, so all the compression and shit i do digitally. im sure this is against a million rules. hell, digital guitars are.

Should be able to disable onboard sound in your system's bios.
The rest, well, whatever works.
Some software lets you select different IO using different devices even on PC.
It's how I chain several things together on PC.

yeah, i got it going...i did end up disabling the onboard in bios
but now, whe i try to record in ableton live at 24 bit/96khz, i get a lot of "digital noise", like when i move the vertical scroll bar. it's the same noise i would associate with a bad video driver - but thats not the issue
when i change ableton back to 24bit/48khz there is no noise..so it's not the video
weird stuff
the mixer i got is working out great for monitoring..plus i can use it to run tracks out from my pc and run them through fuzz pedals via the mixer

If you're hearing bus noise (I get it if I do too much photoshop and have a DAW channel open), could be cooling or drivers or simply a noisy board.
I'd care on mine if the noise was audible on the actual recording (it's not)...

nah it's not like cabling or interference, it's either a hardware or software issue with the pc
i am asking on nerd forums for help
changes in video create the noise which makes me think it's a conflict between the video card and soundcard but they both seem to be working other than this
so it could be ableton
anyway it sucks
