I've reviewed a good amount of information provided in the stickies here as well as at Mad Bean. Thanks to everyone who's collected info and posted it there, it's been very helpful.

Despite all my reading, I still wanted to get advice on stocking parts. As far as starting to work on builds that aren't directly from a kit, I figured buying some resistor kits would be a good idea. Based off what I've seen, I'd be dropping around $80 to get kits that would cover the range of resistors. Does this make sense to do? My impression is that this component is so widely used, having that wide range off the bat would be useful. From there, list out a few builds I'm interested in doing and purchase components for those builds in one go to save on shipping.

Any thoughts on other ways to stock up on parts?

I purchased some ebay kits ... they were more of a lot than a kit and while they were cheap; I wish I had just purchased resistors individually from mouser. I'm building more than just pedals; I'm currently stocking up parts to build a modular and what I've discovered is that the cheap resistors are cheap. Sometimes the metal 1%'s are fake. I'm gonna have to go to mouser and purchase the Xicon series 271 for building MOTM (Synthesizer Technology) modules.

If you go with a kit, I recommend Smallbear. I have never purchased their resistor kits but I know they are reputable. Friends of mine have been giving them business for a while. I am personally going to have to go to mouser and purchase 200 of each value of the xicon 271 series (but this isn't necessary for building pedals.)

Tayda Electronics has good box caps, pots, knobs, and many other things for cheap. Tayda

I grabbed the resistor kits from Small Bear a long while back and I highly recommend them. They are more expensive, but they come organized in storage containers and the quality of the resistors is a bit higher than many of the kits on eBay.
