I rocked mine for many years, but I sold it about a year ago along with a few other pedals to pay for my Mobius. That isn't a diss on it, I still love the Hoax, and would love to have one again sometime.

I got one but I haven't used it in a while because to be honest I find how complicated it is a bit annoying. It's still around because it does some amazing things but ehhh I think I might flip it for something simpler.

I flipped mine about a year ago. It made a lot of cool sounds, but I didn't have a manual or the technical know how to really use it to it's fullest. I never really replaced it either. I couldn't fit it on my current board if I wanted to.

Anyone who has a Hoax and wants to better understand what it actually does, check this site out. It is miles better than the EHX manual. Once I read through this, I understood it sooooooo much better. I got the point where I knew where all the knobs should roughly be to get the sound I wanted.

I had stumbled into that site before I sold it. I couldn't even copy tones by using the same settings; maybe mine was a dud?

This one really needs to be put in a smaller box

There's a long thread on Harmony Central ("flanger hoax lounge") where people share their settings.

Have you seen the guts on it? It's one EHX pedal where I think the enclosure is totally justified.

Yeah, just thinking about all the fucking circuits in that thing, I doubt you could get it much smaller.

There's only one other all analog TZF on the market, the Foxrox one, and that thing isn't small, either.

Man, I gotta dig mine out and start messing with it again. It's been a while.

Oh, and if you get to jonesing, you can borrow mine Bigchief.

And you can get noise, drone and fuzz sounds out of it. Amazing box.

All I have to say is I tend to make a setting, find what sounds good through it (play to the pedal settings), then mark the settings and note what sounds good through it.

I bought my FLanger Hoax to pretend I'm Steve Hackett through. There was that one obscene modulation device he played through where it was also trial and error to get sounds. I thought I could be cool and do similar. It turns out I'm a dork and then I took a cue from my dad (he's always had better ears and better understanding than I) that I can't just play whatever, I have to make the most of whatever setting. I wish I could be like him. :(
