some small labels DO help with funding recording & releases, some help with booking, plus sometimes it's simply a visible link to other active bands whom venues may have worked with before.

why else would you want to let one put their name on your work?

We hav a licensing deal at the moment, meaning we pay for recording, mixing, art and layout. The label pays for pressing the vinyl and printing the jackets, but that's it. We get a (small) percentage of the pressing as payment (commonly referred to as "royalty copies"), but digital is entirely ours.

If the label has relationships with the bigger press outlets, that certainly helps.

We do all the booking ourselves still.

Shocking as it may seem, but there are people who will check bands out simply because they're signed to/associated with a record label. :thumb:

Definitely. There are certain labels, that I know anything they put out is going to be good, so I keep tabs on all the bands in their roster.

We'll be looking for a label to distribute our album once it's recorded, mixed and mastered. Which we will be paying for. What we would ideally like is a label that's going to pay for production, distribution and pressing of the physical album. It'd also be cool if the label had some connections that we don't have and can just spread the word etc, but that's all we're looking for them to do really. If no one picks up the record, no worries we'll self release.

You can say that again.
