Of all the genres of music I never thought I'd love, I'm finding that I really love some afro-cuban type jazz. BUT I don't know any good artists. If any of you dudes know of some good, preferably crazy and technical type stuff, let me know! Especially the stuff with the crazy drumming.
I like that ^^^ based on skimming through it since I don't have time to listen to the whole thing just right now. I listen to the local jazz radio in the back room where I work and it's hard to hear or remember the names of musicians when they say them. I'll try and write some down if I catch them tomorrow. There's also a certain scale or mode or something that they play in a lot (with the steel drums or whatever), but I have no clue what it's called.
I'll try and get a bit more specific tomorrow; I'm about to pass out fer now
Hmm, that stuff is fun, but the stuff I've heard on the radio is faster; the drums and percussion is all kinds of weird. Haha, maybe I'm being too specific.... I like the stuff (in jazz, and music in general) where you have a hard time figuring out what time signature they're playing in.

So, you're looking for more polyrhythmic stuff?
Try to find out some of the names of the people you've heard. Once we have a few names to go on, I can direct you to similar sounding music.
There's tons of Latin percussion heavy music to listen to. Not all of it is "Afro-Cuban" or "Jazz".
This probably isn't quite what you're looking for either, but I love this stuff:

Nothing Cuban about Joe Cuba except his name.

Also probably not what you want, but sometimes there're guitars in Latin music.

Or even stuff like this fuzzy guitar intro:

Ok, I got a name today. Eddie Palmieri. I guess he's a Latin pianist. But all the latin/cuban/afro stuff is interesting. And yes, more poly-rhythmic stuff too. The scale/mode I'm after is whatever he's playing on the piano.
Edit: I really like this track, and stuff that's similar, but he has a lot more vocal-oriented stuff that I'm not so into.

Yeah, that track is really nice.
Eddie Palmieri's Puerto Rican. So, yeah, he's a Latin pianist.
Now I know what you're looking for, I'll have to find some good stuff for you.
