Gimme opinions on this craigslist amp

So I've been looking to possibly trade my Fender Deville 410 for a decent head. This is the first offer that's looked kind of good, so far, but I wanted some opinions from you doods. This amp is a clone, and that's why I want some third party input. The only hitch if I take it is that I'd need to go and buy a cab (on my credit card  ) so I can play a show in a couple of weeks.

Thoughts? Thanks dewdz

Not sure what tubes looking "cheesy" is but that is a sweet amp on specs... Can you go and try it out??? I'd make sure to find out who made it so you can keep in touch but for what you do it'll prolly be ace...

Also any old Peavey 4x12 would work perfectly...

Yeah, I'm thinking it looks pretty sweet. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything I should be looking for. I emailed the guy back asking about when it was made and such. His location isn't too far from me; so I bet I could try it out.

Not sure if you noticed but it says in the ad that the amp is a Bugera 1960 (that should REALLY go in the ad title to avoid misunderstanding). I haven't played one so can't comment on the sound but have heard a lot of negative comments regarding the reliability of Bugera amps, and they were pretty cheap new (under $500), so personally I wouldn't trade a Deville for that. Just my opinion.

But it looks like a clone of a Bugera cause the transformers are different... I would ask the dude to make sure... Only way to tell is to go over and Drone out on it...

No looks to be stock... Ask for less cause the Strayan is right...

I use a Bugera 1960 as my main amp, and it rocks. It is a quite faithful clone of the 1959 Super Lead and I haven't had any issues with it so far (going on about 2 1/2 years now). I readily recommend it if someone is looking for a Plexi-type sound on a budget.

That being said, I don't think it's worth what he's asking. First of all, I don't know why in the world he's acting like removing the original tolex and replacing it with that gray face is somehow an "upgrade". I think it's a downgrade because it just looks weird. The case and tubes are nice, but I bought my 1960 for about 225 used at Guitar Center, and he seems to be implying that it's worth twice that much. I'm not sure how much your Deville is worth, but I'd say that the amp as it is with the case is worth about 350, tops.

I would not pay more than $200 for that. the changes were all for the better and it does look nice, but Bugera. We all know that custom does not equal extra resale value, unless it was done by someone with an impeccable established name. (Soldano, verellen etc.)

Don't do it. Just keep your eyes peeled and don't settle. Yeah, it's a bunch of watts, but ehhh

Thanks guys. To give you an idea of my Deville, I bought it for $600 used, in pristine shape, a couple years ago. It's seen some shows, but it's still in great shape. The only thing I've ever done to it is change the fuse. I want to sell/trade it for something as close to that price as I can reasonably get.

I think maybe he's asking a bit more because he's packaging some other stuff with it. I don't think it's all in the CL ad. Namely, a Weber mass attenuator, and a road case. I don't need the attenuator, but I also don't have a practice space, and being able to play the thing in my apartment from time to time would be nice. I also have never used an attenuator, and I know that they can suck tone, if I'm not mistaken :idk:

I'm leaning towards this.

I'm always so torn on buying stuff like that. I'm sure it's loud as fuck, but besides the "NEEDS NEW 18" SPEAKER" I have no idea what's good in the realm of solid state. Plus I have to save every dime for a guitar I'm about to order..... that's why I'm looking to trade the Deville. Unless you guys can sell me on the Peavey..... I dunno what the cost of a new 18-incher would be.

Like others have said, that trade probably wouldn't be worth it.

If you do sell your amp, you should check this out:

I saw a guy play a show with a JC120 not too long ago. Sounded good. I hear good things about them in general. I keep looking at that peavey, though..... the "punk-rock, grindcore" part of my personality is telling me "it's going to be so loud and it's so cheap!!!!"
