Got a question about a guitar trade

So i have this Old 60s Hollowbody Kay Jazz 2 I want to trade for something different. I posted it on Clist for some trade offers and this guy sends me pics of all these guitars and tells me he has a 65 jazzmaster that the body had been broke in half and he put it back together and had been playing it for 8 years. He wants to trade this. My kay is only worth around 800-1000 bucks. I would think just the neck alone on the jazzmaster would be worth that. He said he has some fake Gibsons with Gibson wrote on it. But he told me about those were fake so that kind of makes me wonder if its real or not. What do i need to look for on a old jazzmaster?

He also said he would just give me 800 for it. So that makes me wonder why he wouldn't just keep the Jazzmaster and give me the $800.

I don't know much about identifying or authenticating old Fenders but I do know the date stamp should be on the neck heel, visible when the neck is removed. You should post this on the Offset forum as well as those guys really know their shit. I'd be way skeptical just like you as that thing looks nowhere near stock, mods everywhere! Looks pretty badass tho...

Yeah that guitar looks pretty sick, if you're into it just as instrument I would just play it and see how it is even if it's fake?
if you're not into it though and you're just into seeing its value I think you're on the right track. I have nothing to add on it's authenticity haha

I live out of town or i would go play it right now. If it was real i would go get it and if i didn't like it sell it. I don't know. I posted some stuff on the Offset. They will know for sure. Thanks

That neck doesn't look original. Is that bound rosewood with dots? Huh?

Bound with dots was a transitional thing. Some '65 Jags and JMs are bound and dots, before they switched to bound and blocks.
That said, I'm not even remotely convinced that that's a legit Fender Jazzmaster. In fact I think it isn't. The pickguard is totally wrong, as is the separate chrome Mustang-style control plate. Tuners are clearly not vintage either, so there goes a bunch of value for the neck. And the headstock looks really dark, like it's not even maple maybe?
I'm no expert, but to me it looks more like an old Japanese knockoff that someone slapped a Fender decal on. I wouldn't do it unless you get a lot more detailed photos to go on. Looks fishy.

We might, mostly, be lifeless mouth breathers with too much time spent on the net, too.
I kid, I kid.
One of the reasons ILF is because the community here is excellent. Quick with replies, super helpful. All the best dudes/dudettes.

i can't say 100% certain because that pic is pretty bad but that neck isn't correct at all, not even the correct logo. if the body has been broken, routed, refinished and further modded then it's not really worth much money at all.
it may be kool to play and have fun with but you're looking at a $300 tops. .... and that's being nice.

The fret markers look too small to me, and it definitely has too many frets to be vintage Fender. I still think this is more likely late 60's or 70's Japanese.
