I'm in love with it...picked it up along with the new-ish Omar Rodriguez Lopez album this morning.

A bit more mellow but it lets you absorb the music a bit more without getting bashed over the head

I'm really interested in getting this one...

Just scored it. I'm out of the country, so I had to just DL it to my iPhone. I'm a little bummed not to see the art/liner notes, etc. Oh well.
Here goes...

I entered a contest on Ug to get the Cd and a gibson flying V....I got runner up in one of their contests.... who knows?

So, I listened to it. Wow. Just wow.
Mastodon is a band that gets better with every album. No pining for the past with these guys.

As with all their albums, it will require more listens to fully digest....but my first impressions:
Progessive. Melodic. Futuristic. Psychedelic.
There's a little more breathing room than their other stuff (though still super busy and notey)...the way it's mixed is less claustophobic than their other albums. The vocals are cleaner overall, more sing, less scream. You can actually understand a lot of the words.
Brendan O'Brien did an amazing job of making everything sound clear and vivid, even with all the notes they cram in there. Although it's cleaner and more melodic, it's clearly NOT a sell-out attempt. It's still crazy as fuck and 'out there'. There's no Enter Sandmans on this album.
If you dig hard prog, get it. Thank god for this band.

I gots tickets to see them in a small club next month too.

Just listened to half the album on my fancy stereo...still prying the bits of my face off the speakers.

The czar just floored me I need to listen to the other half later.

I'll be the douche, but I was mad disappointed. Kinda made loose faith in things for a while until I listened to the new Mono. Talk about amazing.
