Ok so I have potential opportunity to trade my 69 competition Mustang for an 08 Thin Skin Jazzmaster, straight across and I'm torn.

I like my Mustang a lot, but I'm not sure I love it, you know? I prefer full-scale necks with modern radius and frets, so on that front I feel that I should make the trade. And I could always pick up another less rare and valuable Mustang in the future if I find I'm missing the sound and feel of it too much.

The Jazzmaster I might trade for is Daphne Blue with matching headstock which is just gorgeous to me. The pickups were swapped to Duncans but thr originals are included.

I think in many ways that the trade is the right thing to do, but I just worry that I'll regret letting the Mustang go too much in the future. But I have in the past listed it for sale a couple of times before changing my mind and pulling the ad, so I suspect that even if I don't do this trade I'll inevitably get rid of it in the future.

So I want to hear opinions from you guys on what I should do.

Oh and if I did the trade I'd keep the Mastery that's on my Mustang and put it on the Jazzmaster.

Have you played the jazzy? If you can you should, then you would know the answer. I like jazzys and mustangs. I'd stick with the mustang unless i were able to play the jazzy first. But that is a sexy jazzy.

I can't tell you whether or not you should trade as I know nothing about that stang, but I'll tell you those thin skinsare really something special, I absolutely love my ts jaguar, it's leaps and bounds beyond any other regular USA fender I've handled. Ive heard that the finishes and final details on these were done by the custom shop and I 100% believe it. Mine came stock with custom shop pickups and they sound spectacular.

Yeah I'm meeting with the guy with the Jazzmaster on Saturday. I'm leaning towards making the trade but I'm definitely playing it first.

If it plays nice and connects with you, I'd go for the jazzy. Just cause they are more versatile than a mustang.

Mostly because I don't think I'd ever fully enjoy playing a vintage guitar
That and that jazzy looks mint

If you've put it up for sale a few times, there's something about the Mustang you aren't fully happy with like you said.
I say play it first, and if you like it- go for it! I think it's a good trade

Thanks guys! I was slightly worried that I was contemplating doing something stupid, but I feel a lot better now that I am in fact doing the right thing. Now I just want it to be tomorrow so I can try out the Jazzmaster and hopefully bring it home with me!

The Jazzmaster is an amazing Guitar. I am all about them.. It's really personal chouice . If this is your playing guitar it has to scream PLAY ME OR ELSE to you... IMHO... If you are eh.. about the '69 and dollars vs dollars the Jazzy is the one for you.. go for it.. My ony caveat is that I regret most guitar sales. Not that I don't want to keep the thing I got. I want them all :-) but if its one and only one main guitar it has to be missing piece.. :-)

I woudl always vote Jazzy :-)

Oh and in a perfect world, I'd just buy the Jazzmaster and keep my Mustang, but unless someone wants to donate a bunch of money to me that sadly ain't gonna happen.
