Whammy 4 Owners!

Hi friends.

Could one of you (if there are any of you) do me a favor?

Plug in your Whammy 4 and check the Shallow and Deep Detune settings for me. When you rock the expression pedal, does it change the RATE of the effect?

Thanks!

I don't have a W4, but I'm pretty sure that the treadle controls the wet/dry mix in the detune modes, not the rate.

Yeah, the treadle controls the blend on those settings, the rate is fixed.

I am absolutely sure that my Whammy 4's treadle controlled the rate of the Detune on both modes. The Shallow would go from a basic chorus to a pretty slow flange. The Deep would go from a really warbly Leslie sound to a "Come As You Are" kind of chorus.

That's how Chorus and Flange work, detuning and separating the dry from the wet... Lightly detuned and slightly separated gives you Chorus and more gives you Flange...

This is from the manual...
Detune -This group of Presets creates a copy of your input signal, slightly shifts the pitch of
the copied signal and mixes it back with the original signal. As the treadle is rocked back and
forth, the level of this detuned signal is changed. With the pedal in the toe up position, only the
original dry signal is heard. As the pedal is rocked forward, the detuned signal is mixed with the
dry signal.

The Detune Presets include:
Shallow -The copied signal is shifted slightly out of tune from the
original pitch.
Deep -The copied signal is shifted substantially out of tune from
the input signal.

I recorded this side by side for Pop yesterday and thought I'd post it here, in case anyone else was interested.

Edit: Oh my god, the comments on soundcloud are infuriating. Cannot get them set in the right spots.
It goes through the Whammy IV Shallow, then the V Shallow, then back to back maxed. Then the same with the Deep setting.

Sounds legit... The rate thing you are hearing is the notes beating as they spread apart and out of tune from each other... Normal...

You're probably misremembering "rate" as "blend."
