"Broken" Malekko 616 - should I purchase?

Locally there's a Malekko 616 (latest model) going for super cheaps because the guy "put the wrong wattage" into it. I'm a hack at debugging stuff, but what is the likelihood that "the wrong wattage" means

1) Wrong polarity
2) The 616 has polarity protection and I can just change out the diode?

Any ideas?

If he used an AC adaptor instead of DC, don't even think about it.

The 616 is SMD too so if it was reverse polarity, be prepared to work with it.

If he put in too much voltage, if there's no regulator, you can expect to have to replace all the delay chips at the very least.

Personally... I wouldn't bother.

Thanks scruff. No deal then!

Totally forgot that malekko stuff is SMD.
