Speaker upgrade in a small practice combo?

Has anyone done this?
I've got an Orange BXT50 and an Eminnence Kappalite 12 (I can't remember if it's the LF or not)
How were your results? I'm a little hesitant because I doubt the amp is really built for a higher end speaker i.e. less than stellar components would be shining through a nicer speaker.
But, I've been wrong a lot before.

Speakers have a large effect on the sound your amp is broadcasting, so there's a fair chance you can get better results, depending on what you choose and what you're going for. It won't make your amp what it isn't but it can give you a different sound regardless.

I'm odd in that I only replace pickups/speakers/etc if there's a problem with them.
As stated above, swaps won't make a silk purse out of a pile of dirt.
Chances are any speaker upgrade that gets you into 'worth doing' are going to cost more than the amp itself (showing it at @270 new on MF, pre-call and ask for discount).
I also show that it has a speaker out, no idea if it mutes the internal or not - that'd be my step if I liked the sound of the amp but needed more presence.

Swapping a speaker for more than 270??? I've never gotten something done like this before but for that much I would happily risk DIYing it.

Just read the manual, it does disconnect the internal speaker.

ive ditched the peavey blue marvel from my Peavey Studio pro 112 for an eminence (playing musical chairs atm between a V128 and a Reignmaker)
its my practice amp/tester amp so i use it more on a daily basis so its more than justified.
im actually quite fond of it.

Much difference in volume/what made you more fond of it? I'm thinking about ditching my fEARful because I was less than stellar in my construction so there's a bit of rattle. Not enough to really make it sound awful but it doesn't sound it's best. The thing is, I'm too lazy to open it up, find out what's wrong, blah blah. The money is in the speaker so if I can use that in a different box with better results I will consider it a win.
