I realize the tone in the Beatles' "Revolution" is not from a pedal, but I'm searching for a similar tone. Something kind of like it can be heard on that Morissey tune "Suedehead."

All the fuzzes I've tried online and in stores are too heavy, too smooth. I want a crunchy fuzz that sounds like a bad amp that's overloaded. I don't want a velcro fuzz--I've got a Fuzz Factory and I already have that tone.

Suggestions?

John was playing his Casino alot during that period, George too. A lot of their distortion came from them purposefully overdriving the recording boards. Have to remember that they were a studio band, and spent all their time experimenting. Could just be the casino into a blackface fender? I don't know..maybe some of that can help you on your search.

yes. and I am not seeking to duplicate the beatles' tone. I only use that as a reference point.

I may end up needing to EQ the signal to some extent. Was just hoping, with the hundreds of fuzz pedals out there, that there might already be something close in this range.

I use a handwired Vox 4 watt amp, and I can get it to break up great, but my problem with most of the fuzzes and distortions I've tried is that they're too 'big" sounding, too full, too neat. the fuzz factory gets some great, nasty, velcro stuff but that's not what I'm after. thanks for any other suggestions.

maybe look at a maestro fz-1a, or shin-ei fy-2. both pretty sustainless gated fuzzes.
or perhaps the small sound/big sound fuck overdrive with some crackle pushing your tubes into saturation might do it.

I think I'd be experimenting with nasty little transistor amps and maybe a razorblade and some kind of fuzzy booster, maybe germanium just to keep it from getting too nasty.

I'm also thinking about the Keeler Designs Kick pedal. Can't find too many demos for it but it seems like it might dial in what I want.

I tried one... it suck for the high price.
Sound like a wrong fuzzface.

I'm with you on that one, crazy price and a sound without balls.

I think experimentation is the key to a tone that's both great and shit.
