I'm stuck on Cd's. I hate digital music. here's my reason:

Say you want to give your girlfriend a present for whatever reason and you know her favorite band is coming out with a new record. Would you rather give her a physical copy of a CD with album art and all or a usb thumb disc with the songs on it.

I am sentimental. Buying an album digitally is like pre-mature ejaculation. Its great but the joy doesn't last as long.

Where do you get it from?
I usually like to buy my stuff straight from the label if possible. (KRS, Matador, Mush are my most frequent.) Tower records burned me for $15 and ignored my emails so never again.

I am a vinyl whore. MP3s and CDs don't normally come with kickass posters and other insert goodies.

If I enjoy a band enough I like to shoot them some support. I tend to download first before buying though (gotta love soulseek)

I really wanna get into buying vinyl,but I have no clue what type of turn table.Also wanna exchange slsk names?

I mostly download stuff until I get a chance to hit up Flat Black and Circular in Lansing. Once in a while I'll nab something from ebay if I really need it now.

I get it fromt he same places you do... Record Archive, House of Guitars, Record Archive, Lakeshore Music, Bop Shop, CD exchange. (All local stores.)

I prefer CD and vinyl, but my damn turntable broke....
But what i usually do to AVOID that situation with your CD. I bring it home, burn it, get a copied disk for my CD case and i'm free to beat up. Original is safe on my shelf and digital so I can listen on my compy...

The only time I usually download something is if its rare or not being released anymore.....or if its meant to be free.

I download most of my music now...I'm sorry, but recorded music is basically free. There are so many easy ways to get music without paying for it and while I feel bad having been through the recording process many times and experiencing how expensive and time-consuming it is, I'm not going to fix things by paying for music.

Generally, if I really like a band I will support them somehow, whether it's going to see them live or buying their merchandise or getting the album on vinyl.

Which leads me to my preferred format for listening to music. I think mp3s are useful and I have a boat load of them, but I don't want to pay for them because it's a compressed format that cuts off the "inaudible" high and low frequencies. I think it's weird that I can have a credit card sized device with my entire music library in it, but I also think it's awesome and I embrace it.

I would go for CDs, but there's an experience involved with owning and listening to vinyl. You get HUGE album art plus insert goodies, and it really forces you to listen to an album all the way through and consider the segues between tracks...there aren't any skip track buttons, at least not on my turntable, so unless you want to get up and move the needle for every song you really have to listen all the way through. It creates a social experience which I think is lost with "music ADD" when people just get up and change the song in their itunes library after 30 seconds.

I absolutely hate it when people do that, especially if its my fucking car stereo. One time my friend and his girlfriend were in my car and he's like "this music (violent femmes) isn't rocking enough, lets put in icky thump." I said "if you're going to change it, put any white stripes BUT icky thump in, its my least favorite album of theirs." so he puts De Stijl in, which is an excellent choice, but he skips the first song!!! What an ass.
