anybody have one or messed around with one? i've always liked short scale basses, i'm thinking of maybe getting one.

they're $280 new, kinda similar price point as a squier jaguar bass or vm jazz bass but i'm definitely leaning more towards the mustang. tell me your thoughts/experiences plz

greyscales has one, he'll probably chime in here.

here is a link to a comparison he made to the recent MIJ Mustang bass:

:hello:

So I have three Fender shorties because they are majestic creatures.

Buy the Squier VM. Just do it.

Unless you have the option/money for a Fender, you won't regret it. It's not just good for the price. I keep mine at my band's rehearsal space because it is solid, doesn't go out of tune, and sounds great.
The maple fretboard is the only thing that makes it sound any different than the Japanese model. It's bright. Really zingy. A bit too much for me, but I put some Labella Mustang flats on it and it's fabulous.
Check out the post kb linked to. It'll tell you my initial impression.
But seriously...

Buy it.

sweet, thanks guys.

i chose the squier over fender mostly because of price, and the fact that i'm not a bass player and just want something to mess around with.

you sold me on it! now to try and hunt down a deal...
