So I got some old music equipment today from a ewaste warehouse I frequent. Was donated by our local community college. Got a Fostex Cassette multitracker which I might be able to repurpose into using as a mixer, a portable record player (works great!) and a Rheem Califone reel to reel tape recorder.

Im acutally curious about wheather or not the reel to reel can be used as a pre amp of sorts. I tried plugging into the mic imput and ran the pre amp output into my guitar amp. I got a low hum and a scracthy out when I tweaked the volume knob, so I think it has potential. I was hoping if one of y'all had experience with this stuff (Maybe Unclegrandfather?) I could find a way to turn my idea for it into reality.

So thats it, thoughts?

Those are all great finds... If that turntable works that's a score... The Fostex would be cool for makin tracks or demos on if it works... The Rheem is awesome and you should try to find some tape or order some (cheap) and see if it works... You wont be able to use it as a pre to your guitar amp but you could possibly use it into the Fostex if that works...

Reel to reel for mastering. Just get some tape and run the tracks through it. Analogue yo shit up.

This rules. I really want a small reel to reel for recording and mastering but I have no idea where to start. This stuff looks cool.

Any clue where to order the tape? Cause I would soooo analogue my shit up if its not too expensive. and I can confirm that both the rheem and the fostex work. So does the record player, just spun some flying lotus wax and UMPH SO GOOD.

Getting a new mixer some time next week as well. Perhaps I should retitle this "Bitchpudding's gear win archive" or something.

Basically I have no clue how to work tape in the slightest so any tips for that would rule.
