My dad just gave me this :animal:

'96 MIK Epi Emperor Regent :!!!: gotta find/make a new pickguard and wire the electronics back, but damn, just the acoustic sound is RAD :)

will be changing the strings to 011 flatwounds tomorrow... can't wait to play it through my rig and with the band, it will sit very well with some of our songs :)

Very cool. Looks like something Johnny Smith would play. Your pa use to play it, or did he just buy it for you?

he used to, but he just absolutely found himself in acoustic twelve-strings, so after 13 years of playing it, he passed it on to me...

right now the strings are in terrible shape so it's quite sticky, but still - it resonates so beautifully

thanks, Uncle Grandfather :thumb:

Wow, you're a lucky son, son.

If that thing plays half as good as it looks, you're golden. Golden.

once i get it all wired up, i promise clips :) hopefully soon!

one thing i can't figure out is how can one ground instruments like these, given the bridge is made of wood... gotta do some research

Maybe you can run a ground wire to the tailpiece through the strap button hole?

probably the most intelligent sollution, yes... all things considered, the restoration will be some McGyver-type shit :)

as far as wiring ground goes, i had the same hurdle to jump when i dropped the dearmond pickup in the neck position of my Harmony Archtone.

easy peasey. with the strings off, remove the frequesonator (?) tailpiece. near the strap button, you can drill a small hole (big enough for 18 or 20ga wire to pass through) and let the ground wire poke through there, and just squash the conductors under the plate. it will stay in place perfectly fine and even after you take off the tailpiece later, the force of the tailpiece will essentially mold the conductors into the paint sorta, so it will stay in place. easy!

just be sure to use stranded wire and dont tin it. if you dont, it will splay out a little when you replace the tailpiece, ensuring a good ground connection.

i did exactly this on my harmony and it works perfectly, no problems.

congrats on the new guitar! it looks awesome.

oh, and pic. cuz, duh.

Don't really want to drill the pot holes, the pots are supposed to be on the pickguard :idk:

i'm kind of afraid to drill... aesthetically, i'd also prefer it without it to be honest (also, i don't really need a pickuard on this guitar)

No, don't drill holes, you will regret it down the road. Look up "Archtop guitar finger rests" and you will find a bunch of really cool designs :thumb: Oh and congrats! it purrdee!
