So im told i can get a $300ish amp from Musicians Friend for a gift this year. I have a pretty big selection of amps with no real tonal holes i need to fill fro what i play so its more for fun than anything.
The Excelsior just seems sort of cool. The Super Champ seems like a lot of fun and would probably be an upgrade over the Mustang I i have and the Ampeg is an odd choice, im just wondering how well it would do as a small grab and go doom amp.
So which would you guys choose?

Meh to all of those if you have a few amps already. Get a tech21 character series pedal for direct stuff and as a backup.

I just bought a fender Excelsior and it rules. Granted I didn't pay $300 for it. Just ran it in stereo with tremolo on with my peavey classic 50, so good. I am used to british voiced amps so the 6V6 tubes took a bit to get used to in terms of pushing pedals through it. Sounds great though, may have just enough juice to compete with a drummer, but maybe not.

If you like the Mustang I, why not just go for a III?
Loud enough to kill most situations, more low-end and grab and tweak options (presets, LCD screen, etc.
Super Champ head is just a Mustang with a 6V6 power section.

Not a bad choice there either, I've had the V head (and recently got the cab) for over a year.
Works great for everything I throw at it.

So those of you that voted for the Ampeg, have you tried it as a doom guitar amp?
