Looking for a new drive

I'm considering a second OD on my board...The Boss SD1 is great, but I'd like more flavor.
I don't want any of that transparent junk. Give me something with more color than a pack of skittles, crunchier than a pile of November leaves, and has some form of EQ for thick bass toanz. I'm definitely not opposed to it being able to venture into the realm of fuzz, either.

I really like the possibilities on the Fairfield Barbershop, but it doesn't seem to get quite to the level of angry drive-itude I want in the demos. I've looked around a lot online but haven't found one I can 100% settle for yet so I'd love to hear what you guys like for heavy, non-amp drive.

I know a lot of y'all like the SS/BS Mini and Fuck OD. I love my 4545, so def. wouldn't mind adding more SS/BS.
Maybe a Fuzzhugger Algal? They clean up nice, right?
Maybe some builders on here have a stellar drive in their catalog that I'm missing?

What say ye? :hello:

I bought a Fuck OD from the BST section (actually jrmy bought it for me before I joined) and the the first riff i played on it became a song in like 10 seconds....So, for me I'd say the pedal is inspiring, in addition to sounding great.

Bass or Guitar?

Monarch, Elements, B.A.T Black Forest and Timmy all got lots-o-bass.

The new Mid-Fi Overdrive looks awesome too!

dwarfcraft The Internet OD is worth looking at for an od. uses something like two gain stages and has a stomp switch for a third. so it can get pretty nasty and is nicely textured especially in the lower end.

Kind of both? I've got a tele with an additional bass output on it. But primarily guitar, I'd say.
What's the new Mid-Fi called? I just looked at their line yesterday and didn't see any drives...I'd definitely be into checking that out!

I found the 4545 really inspiring, so I can only imagine what the Fuck would do. Definitely up at the top of the list.

I totally forgot about the Internet! I'll go listen to some demos of that dude again. Thanks!

You only live once, should at least try this in your short life.. all gain stages are in this box (don't get fooled by the "od" reference)

So yeah, based on this, get a Mini. More bass than the standard Fuck and just as nasty with the bias knob. & it'll go fuzzy on ya. Also totally agree with your assessment of the Barbershop. It sounds reeeaaallly nice for on the verge of break up and lighter OD sounds, but it won't go crazy on its own.

The Internet is also a nice choice. I've been curious about the Total Spack Vibes ever since that first demo came out. Same pedal with more options.

the mini will go from clean/gritty/broken fuzzy, in a small neat package

the superpuzzle for low gain clean-but-rough drive, through to spitty/grain drive, to clangy octave fuzz, to clean ring-moddish/octave weirdness.

the elements for clean eq, to classic low gain od, to wall of distortion, all with wide eq and clip options + bleand

Drive that I like:

-Dr. Scientist The Element
-Liquid Gain Hydra
-Mountainking Ruckus II

And I should get that new Mid-Fi soon.

My dirt section is ssbs sparkle motion > algal bloom. They are great together. Sparkle motion is so cool on its own and can turn the algal into some sort of zippery fuzz to a huge-o monster fuzz depending on the settings. But the algal does clean up nice.

Just sold one, actually...It always felt a bit thin for what I was looking for. Maybe since it was a newer model? I dunno. It just never gelled with the rest of my setup.

Definitely leaning this way. You're a great salesman :thumb:

Let me know when you do! I'd love to hear it!

Thanks for all the opinions so far, guys!
