How hard would it be to build a Big Cheese clone?

I've been reading up on how to read schematics, what transistors and resistors are and what not and I really want to give building pedals a try. I've noticed a lot of the kit sites (no way I'm finding all the parts the first time) have "beginner" kits but they are all stuff I don't really want like boosts or Distortion+ clones. I actually want a Big Cheese so I figured why not build a Chunky Cheese clone from OLC but I just want to make sure I'm not going completely over my noob head. My dad is a mechanical engineer and has had to work with the electrical engineers at his work before so he's assembled electronics before (never audio though, he works at a medical company) and is willing to help me out and teach me how to solder. I'm a patient person also so if it's just a matter of more components I think I could handle it. But I don't want to spend $90 on something I have no chance of building so- can I do it? Also how detailed are the instructions OLC gives you, if any one has used them before?

I haven't tried them, but am going to order an Orange Peel soon.

You may want to try a boost first though just to get your feet wet. You can always use a boost some where.

But go ahead and give it a try.

It's not like you can electrocute your self (unless your soldering iron has a frayed cloth cord and cost 50 cents).
