i've had several of the little ones over the years, actually have liked a lot of the effects but have always hated their gaudy housings. now i've got a cool cat i actually like. wondering about gutting it and finding a squared off housing for it. any tips or suggestions?

Bump for interest. I've got a compressor that sounds great but I hate the arcade style footswitch.

Measure the PCB on the inside first. There may be more than one also. Make sure you'll have room for the board(s), your bypass switch, pots, jacks, power plug, LED, etc. Sometimes the way they are laid out is very dependent on the casting of the enclosure as to how everything bolts up on the inside. You may have to use a substantially larger box to have room to house everything.

thanks guys - i'm hoping someone has actually done one so they can recommend an appropriately sized case. i haven't opened it up yet (since i'm still playing w/ it) but will toss pics in here once i do.

It's been a while since I've messed with one of the bigger Dan-o pedals...a 1590bb should work. Definitely a 125bb. Maybe even something smaller depending on how the pcb is set up. I recommend using the enclosed 1/4" jacks. More expensive, but they will give you a little more room to work with. Get it open and measure the pcb; go from there

it'll fit into a 3.5 x 5" housing, 4 x 5" if i want to keep everything centered. just battery depth.
that's another thing i'm curious about though, it can run off two 9v batteries or its 18v adapter... would there be a simple way to give it two 9v adapter ins? maybe just via replacing the battery ins instead of the 18v in? (yes i'm still an amateur beyond assembling kits.)

You could but it makes more sense IMO to just make a Y cable if you're going to use 2 9v supplies. If you must use a 9v supply, I would recommend using a charge pump setup. Either use the bipolar setup to get 18v (you MUST use an isolated power supply for that though, no daisy chaining) or use the other method which gives you 17 volts. All of these are still more complex than just using an 18v supply though.

Speaking of rehousing a Cool Cat, has anyone successfully added a vibratro switch to one? I'm planning on rehousing an 18V anyway, so I figured I might as well add a vibrato toggle if it isn't too difficult.

Use a spst toggle switch to connect/disconnect the ring/sleeve on the stereo out jack. Should remove the dry signal, thus, vibrato. This can also be done, or tested, by plugging a cable into the stereo jack of the pedal, while leaving the other end hanging.

I rehoused the bigass metal boxed delay -



And it came down to a 1590P1 or 1590J. The odd size of the board wouldn't work in any other enclosure. For ME anyway. YMMV
