I was looking for a head that can do guitar and bass duty, and one of these came on my radar. I know they sound good for bass but has anyone used one for guitar? Take pedals well? I'm hoping I can get some good heavy tones with a dirt pedal or two.

Cool, I don't really play doom or anything but I think I could make it work for guitar by boosting the preamp with an EQ pedal.

I would never call a MM HD a doomy amp anyway, but if you like running lots of effects and like loud they rock.

Yeah, I would be using it for distorted post-punk guitar with lots of reverb and grindy bass so it will probably kill. I have heard it described as a Bassman with more balls. I have played an MM HD65 and it sounded great.

I resent the fact that bros think all we play here is doom.

I haven't played a doom show since 2008.

Great amp, sounds really good; but it gets dirty pretty quick with bass in my experience.
Still sounds great. Not the best amp distortion but you're using pedals anyways. Hit it.

I'm cool with doom. I love a lot of the old doom bands. The only reason I dropped that caveat in there is because it seems like the obvious genre for a 150W tube head.

I already have an Ashdown ABM500 which handles the need for hi-fi bass tone.

 actually... I think it's steel guys that love those things, they have tons of clean headroom.

i use a mm seveny-five head through an old 2x12 bassman cabinet and i love it--take pedals very well and is loud.

An Ampeg V4 would work well for this to.

Takes pedals great and gets really heavy too with some fuzz

+1 on HD130, though mine's the 212 combo. never played bass through it but it's one of my guitar favorites. and i'm a pedal whore.

but v4's cost more than music man amps.
