Mars Volta, where should I start?

So I've always been interested in getting into the Mars Volta but I always give up because they have so many albums and I don't know where to start :idk:
Same thing happened to me with QOTSA. I just avoided listening to them for the longest time until I borrowed my friends copy of Rated R and now they're one of my favourite bands.
So in your opinion, what's a good starting point with Mars Volta?
Post some albums/vids please

start by not listening to HIM

De-loused for sure, then pretty much going onwards is the key. To me, it got worst with the latest album, but generally I love TMV :)

Start with Tremulant, then move onto the musical masterpiece that is Deloused.

Then stop unless you like being consistently disappointed.

Agreed. I just like to work my way up to greatness. I don't wanna blow my load all at once only to feel dissapointment when I start backtracking the rest of a band's catalog.

I would say going forward to Frances the Mute is pretty safe. I enjoyed Frances a lot for the first few months it was out. I can go back to that and Deloused and Tremulant with ease, feel like I'll have to spin some this afternoon.

I was moving to a new city and making a long drive and I listened to Amputechture. That was the record that John Frusciante played all of the lead guitar on. Even though Omar taught him the parts it still seems different. It has a different vibe.
